Give yourself a point if you knew that Israel held elections yesterday.

Give yourself another point if you knew that Ehud Olmert’s Kadima party “won.”

Give yourself another point if you knew that a “win” in Israel doesn’t require winning very many seats, it only requires that your party win more than all the others.

Give yourself another point if you can spell “fractured.”

Reward yourself and boost your happy hour conversation by reading and listening to Olmert’s victory speech.

We have a chance to go to Israel this year, if our son succeeds at the next level of the International Bible Contest. We’ve put no pressure on him and the stars of David may not align, but frankly, from what I hear from friends returning, knowing that the country will only minimally resemble what I remember from over 20 years ago, I’m not sure how anxious I am to go.

Very conflicted, much like the Israeli population, and its government.
