First it was a clipping service.

Now, it’s a “Political consulting and advocacy advertising firm.” That uses Google to find and browse blogs.

Check out the client list of a firm that says it “takes on the tough races, the ones that can’t be won, and we win them, over 80% of the time.”

How much money do you think it takes to get them to do that?

Nope, nobody’s paying attention to what the blogs say. Or spending a dime to find out.

With that search string, seriously, who might the firm be assisting? Opponent? OpponentS? Or the candidate herself? I’m not savvy enough to figure that out.

UPDATE:

So Frank Greer, a longtime political strategist, well-known for work on behalf of Bill Clinton, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other causes about which I actually know a few things, founded GMMB in 1983. He works out of Seattle but has lots of folks in the firm, in D.C. and L.A. too.

I’m guessing lots of Ohio wonks and politicians know about Mr. Greer. Now at least I know a bit more. And I don’t see how Cafaro would fit in as a client, except for a few possible union ties and a few Ohio mentions. Otherwise, maybe someone at GMMB just had too much time on their hands and was browsing around? I don’t know.

Does anyone?

If I were running a political consulting firm and had client who would pay for blog work, I would have a stable of supporters willing to log on and comment anytime I find a blogger dissing my client.

It certainly would explain why I can’t blog Cafaro without my intelligence or manhood being questioned.

Pho – they, like the rest of us, love you because you’re intelligent. I’m sure it’s got nothing to do with your manhood (except envy maybe? – what do I know).

Just spent five-ten minutes doing more research on GMMB. Like I said, if you’ve been around, I guess you (in general – not you in particular) would know about this group. Me being me, I didn’t.

Seems it’s part of the world’s largest PR conglomerate, Fleishman-Hillard, which in turn is part of Omnicom Group. Some reference to $169 million in fees alone in California for one group of efforts has gone to GMMB. Also some involvement in Rob Reiner’s effort to get preschool mandated and paid for in CA.

A bit of a blur, but clearly a large entity. One person in Cleveland for Fleishman-Hillard.

Still – given the clients, Cafaro doesn’t seem quite their usual fare. Again, might have been someone bored, or someone wanting her money, as opposed to someone already getting paid by her? Maybe they’re pitching her? Who knows.
