What? You need more? Oy, what a pain.
My number one reason for voting no on Issue 3, with the false friend name of Ohio Learn and Earn, is because I can. And because of my kids. And because of principle. And because I don’t like it.
I’ve spent 57 days providing reasoned, backed up evidence of why Issue 3 should fail. Now? I’m just telling you like it is: I don’t like it. I don’t like how it was done. I don’t want my city or county or region to evolve into Detroit, OR Vegas, OR Atlantic City, OR St. Louis, OR Mohegan Sun.
I just. don’t. like it.
I never have and I don’t expect that I ever will.
And thank GOODNESS I can still vote (whether or not that vote gets counted is another issue) against the legally inadequate tool being plied by developers and racetrack interests.
You want to throw your money away? Go for it.
You want to call it entertainment? Fine with me.
You want to make it cheap and easy and fun for me to go to Vegas, where I can do a lot of other things that people will never be able to do in the Cleveland area (I’m talking about natural wonders etc.) and therefore wouldn’t come here anyway? I’m okay with all that too.
But don’t play me for a fool. Don’t tell me that this is the best we can do.
And don’t tell me it’s for the kids.
At least two people I really, really trust, who I know really, really know what’s involved have said that this is the only way to get the money.
But I can’t stomach it. What I do hope to do? Figure out how I can take the time and passion I have and help. Education has always been a passion of mine, and writing is too. And politics and connections and problem-solving. I need to find a way to not just say no to Issue 3, but yes to finding that other way. All suggestions are welcome.
Reason #1 to vote no on Issue 3? Because I want to vote no.
And still, in the USA, that’s the only reason I need.
For all previous reasons, categorized by type, please go here.
And go vote – no matter how long it takes you.
