When I saw this Plain Dealer breaking news item, my heart sank.

I’m not a big fan, and I was never a big fan of Eric Carmen’s music. But for a few years, our kids took swim lessons at the same place and when I was arriving, he’d be leaving. He seemed like the total stay-at-home dad, carting the coats, the totes and the kids as they resisted leaving the pool. He had a resigned smile that left me thinking that he had just the right temperament to hear what the kids were saying without overreacting to their pleas not to leave, or whatever else it was they wanted.

The fact that the alleged incident happened just around the corner from my house, however, also makes me glad that it wasn’t my mailbox.

Good luck, Eric. I hope you, and everything else, gets straightened out.

Ooo – creepy – his birthday is a day before mine, and the same as my Rabbi’s I think.

Hi Jill…long time listener, first time caller here. At any rate, I was thinking…maybe Eric was just being a rock star. I too hope he gets his ducks back in a neat little row, at the very least for the sake of Gates Mills.

That said, when I was a kid one of my first 45′s was “Never Gonna Fall In Love Again” and I’d listen to it over and over on my Close-N-Play.

ooo – Close and Play!!! What a great memory. Maybe he was just being human – I don’t know what we’ll learn about that night – it was in the local paper too (Chagrin Sun something or other).

I hope things improve for him.

Unfortunately this has happened once again. What will it take to bring him to reality and lose his inflated ego? Thanks. Ron E. Duncan – Middlefield Ohio

Why do you assume he has an inflated ego? Perhaps he has pain in his life as do most of those who drink. Don’t assume! I can only hope he gets help.

Who doesn’t have pain in their life? Drinking is another escape. About the ego, check with anyone who knows him. Lets all hope he gets the help he needs though he must want it first. Thanks.

I would say this writer has an ego if she is creeped out that Eric’s Birthday is one day before hers. You don’t need an ego to drink. The man’s father had just passed away. Not that that is any reason to drink and start driving, but there are many other’s out there that do far worse without any reason. Thankfully, no one got hurt. My prayers and sympathy go to the Carmen family. It appears he has a very devoted wife (Thank you Susan) So many others would have bailed. I don’t know Eric personally, but he comes across as a very soft spoken, private and caring individual. You have a devoted fan in Pittsburgh. Hopefully, you will tour again soon and make my hometown one of your stops. It would be great to see you perform.
