Were eaten by Firefox. No kidding. I left the screen to put my kids to bed (read, study for a fractions test, fold some laundry, order a child into the shower, that kind of stuff) and when I returned to the computer, what remained was nothing from the day but rather a screen on top of my email that said Firefox had to close unexpectedly and did I want to re-open. Bummer. I had a lot of open tabs and minimized articles.

So – let’s see what I can conjure back up:

1. There’s some thing at the bottom of my Blogger page here that says “Now Blogger saves your drafts automotically!” Very cool. Thanks, Blogger. I also read earlier this evening that Google is looking to hire some programmers to work on Blogger. My son has nothing planned for the summer yet so…I’m thinking…

2. From E-Media Tidbits: Are you a troll whisperer? I like this article a lot. It’s a prophylactic against trolls, based on being nice. Can you believe? I love this advice and some of it sounds familiar:

3. Some conference info:

-An unconference for citizen journalists might be in the works

-SPJ’s conference in the fall (I expect to go – any reason to get to D.C. works for me)

-BlogHer conference in July (I’m crossing my fingers to present and go)

4. A link to WLST has ended up on a forum called, “AdultDVDTalk.” Oy.

5. Don’t step on that grate – no, really, do NOT step on that grate in the sidewalk

6. Borowitz on GOP prez hopefuls jockeying to be viewed as the whitest of the white

7. Social commentary as only Jeff Hess can show us

And now it’s time for sleep.

Ethics is a big deal in law school. Whether or not those who pass the bar and call themselves “attorney” consider ethics to be enough of a big deal that it shows in their behavior – that’s another thing altogether, sadly.

During law school, we spent time understanding the different model codes. According to this Ohio Supreme Court announcement, the most current one, the American Bar Association’s Model Code of Judicial Conduct, which was adopted by the ABA in 2/07, will now be analyzed and re-drafted by an Ohio judicial task force, appointed by Ohio’s Chief Justice Moyer. And the task force will be accepting comment from the public.

So – if you had your druthers, what would you include – what would you leave out? Wouldn’t it be fun to have the Chief Justice throw up a starting point draft on a wiki and let Ohioans tell him and the task force what they’d like to see in it?

I bet Judge William O’Neill would have a few ideas to start us off (and I mean that in the best way possible).

I’m telling you, wiki is the way to go, Judges.

I’m not kidding.

Baristas in bikinis: here and here. And, so I am not outdone by Wendell:

Photo by Lori Cain/Statesman Journal (Salem, OR)

Does my state Rep. Josh Mandel know how many Starbucks there are in our district (17th), not to mention Caribou Coffee and others? Enforcement nightmare ahoy.

Oh, wait, we don’t even know if SB16 will be signed, and once signed, how it will be enforced, and once enforced, be re-interpreted to call Starbucks a place of adult entertainment (which we know it is in the purest sense of the word). I see slippery slopes…

Denver Post reporter/blogger and sex: here and here. Don’t let your g-string get knotted – he writes about having sex once a day, every day, in a row, for 100 days – with his wife. It’s a book about rekindling marriage, not sex. But here’s some of the places they did it:

We did it on top of a mountain. During the porn industry’s annual flesh circus in Las Vegas. In a yoga ashram, and in a remote yurt. In an ostentatious hotel, a cheap motel, and a Very Victorian bed-and-breakfast in Wyoming in the dead of winter. In our basement…

For the first time in our relationship, we surveyed porno. Annie tested sex toys. I tried variations of one accessory several times, a simple device with a brutal name, a word so unsettling to me that I found it difficult to pronounce in anything more resounding than a whisper: cockring.

Let me tell you one thing about that very last word: Ogunquit, Maine. I was 17 and chambermaiding at a hotel called The Lemon Tree Inn and I always got paired with this French Canadian gay guy who loved to tell me about his escapades while we cleaned out refrigerators…

Read about which states are the most average here in the AP news story (it doesn’t mention Ohio). Then go here (link from the bottom right) to see just how average the rest of the states are.

A cute surprise: Peoria really is the place to see if things play.

Tell me where the game part is in this.

Here’s an MSNBC publication of the group’s press release and here’s the group’s website. And here’s a good post by Pharyngula about the Who is Your Creator’s creator, Julie Haberle.

Do you think the thing about things not being understandable is part of their point in making their website and “game” unintelligible?

So I was browsing my traffic stats’ stuff and saw this:

“omplain dealer as website”

And as my morning mind started to try and figure out what the heck it was, I thought, “Complain? Complain Dealer? What the heck is that?”

And then I realized, “OH! Cleveland DOT COM – Plain Dealer.”

But, you know – this cleveland.complain Dealer thing? Maybe it’s part of why the website doesn’t get as many hits as it might?

Eee…Complain Dealer…oy…

H/t to Sandy Mitchell at About.com (via Brewed Fresh Daily) re: Cleveland tourism being up so much (the measurement is an increase in hotel stays). That’s great. I’m trying to find a resource for more info on that stat.

Now, Sandy, we’re friends, so yes, this is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but do you suppose you’ll be doing an About.com if and when the new adult entertainment restrictions in SB16 go into effect?

Primarily, I really want to know how it will be enforced. This is no small matter since people cannot be arrested, charged and convicted (or acquitted God-willing) for crimes if the method of enforcement isn’t public and knowable. Just saying the activity is prohibited isn’t enough – due process and all that jazz, you know.

I’ve reviewed SB16′s bill analysis and its fiscal notes and I cannot for the life of me find anything that indicates who is going to enforce the restrictions as they are outlined in the bill.

I think the bill reads like Tennessee’s, at least the way TN’s restrictions are explained in the Akron Beacon Journal:

Tennessee has one of the most restrictive state laws, requiring the distance of six feet when a stripper is performing. Yet for the law to take effect, a county must give its approval.

[emphasis mine]

Precisely – SB16 too has language that “requires” a lot of restrictions but gives the local municipalities discretion (by using the word “may”) everywhere else.

And then, there’s always all the Ohio taxpayer money that will go into defending an unconstitutional and indefensible law, as has been happening in Tennessee. Read more about how the Fantasy Video store won in the TN Supreme Court and SCOTUS declined to hear the appeal here. That case has spurred a different TN community to be sued by adult store owners just this month.

So, yes, I’m thinking…an About.com guide to navigating adult entertainment in Cleveland is going to be a must edition, yes?

(Sorry, Sandy-I couldn’t help myself.)

And I got upset because I couldn’t get to an airport conference room when Bush was in Columbus.

From The Daily Telegraph:

THREE city train stations and sections of the CBD will be shut down for three days in September when President George W Bush visits Sydney for the APEC summit.

The move comes on top of a plan to block mobile phones in the city centre to stop possible terrorist attacks on the US leader.

Prime Minister John Howard and NSW Premier Morris Iemma decided on the security measures for the summit of 21 world leaders after meeting in Sydney today.

Three city circle train stations – St James, Museum and Circular Quay – will all be closed between September 7 and 9.

In addition, some sections of the city will become restricted areas, but Mr Howard said the government would work with police to ensure the areas were minimised.

Do you the measures go too far? Tell us what you think.

APEC is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.

Hattip to this Australian blog, Sexualite. I can’t figure out how it showed up in traffic stats, but I love the first-hand how it affects the normal person view of Bush’s visit.
