MEDIA ADVISORY

For Immediate Release

OHIO BALLOT BOARD TO MEET COLUMBUS – Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has called a meeting of the Ohio Ballot Board for Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 at 9 a.m. in the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Hearing Room E, 11th Floor, Continental Plaza, 180 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215.

In anticipation of a timely-filed petition, the board will meet to determine the ballot language of a proposed referendum of Sub. S.B. 16, a bill that the legislature passed in June to tighten regulations on some sexually-oriented businesses in Ohio.

Any proposed ballot language should be submitted to the secretary of state’s office no later than Aug. 22, 2007 by close of business.

The board may be called on to discuss arguments and explanations for or against the petition.

Arguments and explanations regarding this petition must be filed with the secretary of state’s office by the 80th day before the date of the election.

This year, because the 80th day falls on Saturday, Aug. 18, the filing date is extended by state law to Monday, Aug. 20.

Secretary Brunner is the chair of the ballot board.

Other ballot board members include state Sens. Randy Gardner, R-Bowling Green and Ray Miller, D-Columbus, and Mr. William Morgan of Stoutsville, and Mr. Paul Tipps of Columbus.

This is what I glean:

The ballot board is meeting on Thursday, 8/23 to review and finalize the petition language for the petition that would repeal SB16, the law often referred to as “the anti-stripper law.” Read more here on the homepage of Citizens for Community Standards.

The board must have all ballot language submissions by Wednesday, 8/22.

The board must have all arguments and explanations about the legislation by Monday, 8/20.

So, if you have something to say, your options:

Send it to the Secretary of State’s Office, and make sure you state at the top the reason for your communication,

or

Tell one of the following what you want to say (this is my suggestion, not from Brunner’s office):

State Senator Randy Gardner R-Bowling Green
Ray Miller, D-Columbus
Mr. William Morgan (R) of Stoutsville: bmorgan AT mail.agri.sate.oh.us; wmorgan AT columbus.rr.com

Mr. Paul Tipps (D) of Columbus: paultipps AT sbcglobal.net
(info on last two from here)

I don’t know anymore than what’s in the email but if others know, please feel free to leave a comment or email me the info and I’ll post it.

Strippers have no effect on me whatsoever since I don’t waste my money in stripclubs. The state ought to fry the bigger fish out there.
