Thanks, Keith. I met someone over the summer who was in the Marines in Iraq and he expressed pretty much the same thing. I've met Josh in person a few times and talked serious as well as superficial - he's an intense person and I can see how what you describe fits with his personality - at least, what I've seen of it.

Interesting note, in case you didn't follow Mandel's push for HB 151, the bill that would require some of Ohio's pensions to divest of stock in companies that do business with Iran and Sudan: one of the companies on the "bad name" list was GE. Mandel owned GE stock and at first, refused to sell it off. About two months after the bill was introduced, he finally sold it.

If you want to read about that, you can search on "mandel GE" in this blog. With him being my state rep, I was not a happy camper.

Wow. A lot to discuss here.

I have no way of reading Rep. Mandel's mind but I assume if he's a true believer he doesn't care where he goes as long as he's given a mission. Iran, Iraq, all the same: same war, different venue. I don't mean to sound crass or cynical but most of the professional soldiers I knew took that attitude. Mandel is a reservist as I was so his outlook may be a little different but when you go, you know you're going where they tell you to go.

I wouldn't doubt Schecter's clued in friend's view either - it pretty much fits in with everything we know about the people 'who create their own reality.' And it fits in with what I've been reading. The neocons have almost painted themselves into a corner where if they DONT attack Iran they lose face or at least perceive that they'll lose face. I wish Cliff and his crew all the best in their efforts but Fox News is not a decider but a tool. I trust they'll look at Murdoch's connections with the major government/business players in all of this. The media have made money on this war as well - not as much as the military-industrial complex but anyone who doesn't think CNN wouldn't be rooting for a war forgets the experience of the last two Gulf War's and CNN 's pivotal role in covering them and reaping the benefits of covering them. And General Electric, who I believe is the top three defense contractor owns, owns NBC.

There are as many scenarios postulating the what if of an attack on Iran as there are people who have an opinion. But I read this one today and it is as plausible as any other:

Well - like I've said, I'm just speculating but it certainly won't suprise me if when he's campaigning at exactly this time next year, we'll be hearing stuff about his work and Iran - I hope I'm wrong, completely wrong.

Jill, when I first read it I was speechless. It's right out of a sci fi movie on the one hand, but on the other, more bizzare things have happened in my years on this planet. The only thing more surprising would be if you tell me Hallburton now owns Fox. This has scared me ever since the 'axis of evil' comment by you know who.

And I am one of your regular readers! :)

I didn't mean to be judgmental - I think I might not have done the best job of that. But it seemed important. And it was just so weird, the timing of the emails and the post.

Besides, nobody reads my blog anyway. When I tell people that I barely, I mean BARELY, get 200-250 a day, people think I'm lying, like it should be way more. But, nope.

Thanks for leaving the comment and good luck with the venture. I'm glad that there are folks like you who get out there and do what you are doing. I don't think I ever could. But I'm trying to find a way to make a difference anyway.

Hey Jill,

Just so you know my blog will soon be moving over to the Brave New Films family of blogs.

I try to disclose as often as I can that I am a Brave New Films guy, and any regular reader would be hard-pressed not to know. But I understand your concerns. When my site is updated I will have a list of any and all connections to any groups (there are not many) because I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea.

Cliff
