My son told me how, in his social studies class today, they watched the MSNBC tape from 9/11, minute by minute, as that morning unfolded.  While we talked about it, we came to realize that his generation is really the first one growing up (he was seven when 9/11 came) during which the predominant expression about Americans, from non-Americans, isn’t uniformly or nearly uniformly positive.  If anything, it’s nearly the opposite, depending on whom you ask.  Think about that, for a long time.  And then think about what that’s going to do to his generation’s psyche about their homeland. Group therapy, I’m telling you.

1. Meet Geraldine Laybourne.  I’d never heard of her until I got my Ladies Who Launch email this evening.  Very neat lady.

2. The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Council has a newsletter with some interesting topics. Subscribe here.

3. Fantastic ‘Roots News coverage of the Akron elections by Psychohorse here and here. Kyle of The Chief Source has liveblogging of the results here.

4. Speaking of live results, Bill Sloat was at the Hamilton County Democratic Club tonight (I think) where Obama won the straw poll out of 285 votes cast.

5. More usage of the Internet by citizens: Carole tells of an effort to bring back double coupons to Giant Eagle.  Carole, if petite women can make Saks start carrying miniature sized clothing again, I have great faith in the double coupon movement.

6. I admire Roger Bundy for a number of reasons, but I particularly admire him for slogging through the county’s 2007 financial report and then writing about it for us to learn.

7. Two polls in two days though I’ve seen very little written about them in Ohio – could also be because I’ve had my head in my templates for the last several days, when I’m not still nitpicking or otherwise performing shuttle duty. Here’s one from by USA Today and Gallup which was taken over the weekend and includes Fred Thompson, and here’s one from today by CBS that says GOPpers are really in trouble – no one is rising to the occasion but some of the candidates sink lower than others.

8. I’ve been regretfully out of the loop on Into My Own’s look at merit pay (others are looking too) but here’s a good post on the topic re: teachers.

9.  In addition to the ‘Roots News here tonight from Carole, Psychohorse and Roger Bundy, Bill Callahan has this excellent review of the Foreclosure Task Force report which just came out.

Hope you’re liking the new blog site – I’m still tweaking but let me know what you like/don’t like. One comment said they missed the timestamp and did figure out how to put it in.  So keep the comments coming, please.

Jill, tweak if you must, but the new spot is lovely.

Thanks, Red. Very appreciated. Nothing else is super major as far as making changes but I’m kind of a perfectionist (except when it comes to code, right Rob?).
