He hasn't made his gazillions by making bad decisions, though I'm sure, over the years, he's lost some money that he's risked. Also - you know - this whole notion of the 527 media? You do know that it's a small minority of people who would even know what you're talking about? I know these sites are beatable, I've done it myself. But I don't believe the 527, MSM can remain profitable without charging something for their content. And I don't think they will make up the difference in increased traffic and ad revenue. Covering the news costs money, lots of it. It's people intensive, just like teaching children, and is always going to cost big bucks. And while blogs are breaking some big stories, most simply don't have the resources to do it day in and day out. Personally, I think this is a horrible, horrible mistake.
