This reminds me of the story told of R. Abraham Joshua Heschel. The rabbi was classically trained and considered a prodigy in his native Poland. He went on to teach at both the reform and conservative seminaries here in the United States and marched with Martin Luther King Jr. at Selma.

When asked what kind of Jew he was, Heschel resisted labeling and responded: I am not a noun in search of an adjective. I’m simply a Jew.

I think we can, and should, legitimately take a similar position and simply say I’m a citizen.

Man, that’s hilarious. Poole’s post, I mean. I’m not an ODP operative, I’ve never been emailed by anybody at CAIR, and Wordpress has this lovely ability to schedule posts to be published at a predetermined point in the future. I often write posts that are robo-published days or weeks in the future. Scheduling posts to appear spread thruout the day can make it look like I spend much more time blogging than I actually do.

I certainly did less than Poole does – I presented associations. Any implications are left to be drawn by the reader.

Oh, and I took today off, so this message is most definitely not brought to you by the State of Ohio.

Keith – I am certain that Poole cares. I care too. But he can show he cares by communicating with me directly – I’ve sent him two emails today already, and nothing. He’s never once spoken with me or emailed me, about or for anything. How do you just go and say stuff about people as he has? That’s not cool in my book. He also quoted me horrifically out of context but at least there are links, should anyone bother with them, at the top of the article to the Plunderbund piece so people can see the context in which I wrote what I did. Though again, Poole should have included a link to my comment – so people could make the judgement themselves re: what I was talking about (which was his reporting in general, not the specific article he’s discussing).

The blogosphere is a big bloggy place. But if we’re going to be talking about one another, we should be playing by some similar rules and being transparent. I’ve written him to say that I don’t think he’s done that and that he certainly knows where to find me to learn more about how I am on issues, rather than just cutting and pasting.

We’ll see – I hope he will open up and exchange.

Whoa Jill you are taking it high and low today. I don’t know this Hickman guy (he should like to HIS blog so we can critique it) but I would say that Mr. Poole may or may not have properly categorized your political leanings, he does care about people like you and I. He doesn’t want our heads to get cut off:

The issue is that you are so discombobulated and/or unfocused, in your writing style, that the only thing most readers can glean from your stories is that you’re a Jewish Feminist who lives in the suburbs but thinks she has all the answers for people in the inner city simply because you have a PhD and a JD.

Jill, you need another PhD in “real world” rather than what you have now in theoretical fantasyland. Now run along and take your kids to martial arts and stop-off at the Pepper Piker Country Club for some hob knobbin’ … gasp … don’t forget your mirror so you can make sure to watch yourself brush your hair 150 times before you enter the country club.
