I really needed these tonight:

“Babylon Sisters”

    Misheard Lyrics:

        Dial assistance, shake it.

    Original Lyrics:

        Babylon sisters, shake it.

“Babylon Sisters”

    Misheard Lyrics:

        Drink kielbassa from a shell.

   Original Lyrics:

        Drink Kerscwasscher from a shell.

“Black Cow”

    Misheard Lyrics:

        Drink, you big black cow
And get out of here.

    Original Lyrics:

        Drink your big black cow
And get out of here.

Aja and Gaucho are two of my all time faves of Steely Dan but truth is, I think I love every single one of their albums almost equally (yeah, even Two Against Nature – that should go on that objective outrage list for some people though). I still have the LPs…

I have Aja and Gaucho on vinly still as well. I have The Royal Scam too and I think I have Katy Lied. As you might remember, my blog was called Chasing the Dragon until the illustrious Jeff Hess informed me that was a heroin reference.

I grew up on Steely Dan (my dad was a huge fan — God rest him) especially Gaucho and Aja. Come on, Two Against Nature wasn't that bad…except for "Cousin Dupree".

I had no clue what Kirschwasser was.

oh, man, talk about coincidences. For the last two days I have been on a Steely Dan kick, which I go through every now and again. And what do I see this morning…this post.

    Derek, how are you doing?

    Jill

I was listening Steely Dan in junior high. The funny thing is that my parents actually tolerated it because of the jazz-like nature of the arrangements.

Actually my favorite of all is Donald Fagen's The Nightfly. I could listen to that album literally all the time. Aja would be my number two selection.

As for amiright.com, the first time I found this site I was eating lunch at work and almost did the soda through the nose take I laughed so hard. Its one of the great Internet time killers of our age.

Hey Derek! Do you know how nice I feel knowing that you are still reading my blog? And okay – can I ask you an honest question?? The title of this post – how bad is it that when I saw it as one of the misheard lyrics, I laughed? I immediately thought of Angus cows duh – but then when I SAW the post, posted – my gut sank. How bad a boo boo?? If at all.

I love Steely Dan. My husband and I saw them at Blossom maybe three years ago? They actually were really good – I'd heard in the 70s and 80s that because of synth music, they weren't so great on the stage but I really enjoyed the show.

Hi Keith – I'm not familiar with Fagan's solo work worth it I guess if it's your #1 of theirs? I think I nearly wore out Aja.

Love Katy Lied, but also love The Nightfly. In fact, that could be one of my fave albums. IGY, Ruby Baby and one of my favorite house-cleaning tunes, "Walk Between the Raindrops."

Hmm – I think I have to go back and find my CASSETTE TAPES of those albums. Or just visit the half-price bookstore. :)
