Tracy of Maternally Challenged gives a great synopsis of this special Blog Day:
Today is Blog Day for the MOTHERS Act (S. 1375 ), otherwise known as The Moms Opportunity to Access Help, Education, Research and Support for Postpartum Depression Act, or MOTHERS Act. This proposed legislation, sponsored by Senators Menendez and Durbin, would ensure that new mothers and their families are educated about postpartum depression, screened for symptoms and provided with essential services. In addition, it would authorize money to be awarded as federal grants to researchers who are exploring the causes, diagnoses and treatments for PPD.
In that post, she also writes compelling accounts of the impact postpartum depression has on so many lives.
Although I didn’t have a clinical case of postpartum depression, there were times during the early months of each of my children’s lives when everything seemed so chaotic and I wondered if it had all been a mistake and whether I would be able to manage everything. Every choice I made seemed like it had a 100 options and I was sure I’d picked the worst. When my kids couldn’t fall asleep or I didn’t get enough sleep, the world was an altered place.
I still have days when sleep deprivation makes the world seem different, and there are plenty of scary moments in being a parent of older kids.
But the dangers to families when PPD strikes is real and frightening and should be recognized for the threat it can be if not given attention.
Please consider calling or e-mailing your senator or read more here about what you can do.

Another entity involved is Party411. Now, I didn’t officially engage (that is, PAY) for anything or even contact Party411. But I’ve seen the head party lady in action and I have to tell you, she does a great job. But since I’m one of those people who is in denial about being a person who needs people (as some of you may recall), I couldn’t take that step to contact or engage Party411.
However, being the savvy Internet addict that I am, I did use the website a few times and I cannot recommend it highly enough if you are planning any kind of event at all. Do not reinvent the wheel – take a look at the great links and info she has there. Really. I found a lot of excellent helpful info. Now that is what the Internet was meant to do.
