Hattip to Capital Blog for the sober images of what’s been anticipated for a long time now. Go see it to feel it. The image below is from Capital Blog (thank you, Michael, for posting it).  It feels unsavory, to even read that title, even though a newspaper is an inanimate object.

Or is it?

I wonder how many of these folks will start blogging, like Bill Sloat of The Daily Bellwether did after the PD buyout.

    Hi JIll -

One slight point to make. Nobody was laid off at The Plain Dealer. The buyouts were completely voluntary. Some who signed up were near or past retirement age, some wanted to use the money in the generous offers to do other things with their lives, and some were maybe sick of newspapering.

Those jobs you see on the Post list are not buyouts or voluntary departures. That newspaper is closing down forever on Dec. 31 and it is an immeasureable loss. Those folks, and I know many because my wife is an ex-Postie who now works at Xavier University, are out of work and will be added to the legions of displaced Ohioans whose jobs have simply disappeared in recent years. They will get some severance, but nothing compared to what was offered you know where.

I hope some do try blogging. I have encouraged it without much luck. I wish someone would join me at The Daily Bellwether. The skill, talent and dedication would be awesome.

All excellent, relevant distinctions. Thank you. It would be AWESOME to have someone join you at TDB. It is so unique.
