Because I know Bad American wouldn’t want to miss this brief PD piece (that’s a tease, Keith):

State lawmakers passed a ban on direct shipping of wine to Ohio consumers from wineries producing more than 150,000 gallons a year, which includes dozens of large Napa Valley wineries. Ohio House Finance Committee Chairman Matt Dolan said the provision mistakenly slipped past him to make it into the state budget, but he vowed to have it overturned. Is he keeping his word?

Dolan said recently that he is working to have the direct-shipping ban overturned but is running into resistance from Ohio Senate lawmakers as well as Ohio Department of Commerce officials who want to leave it in place.

The Russell Township lawmaker is working on language overturning the ban that he wants to slip into Senate Bill 150, which is sitting in the House State Government Committee.

The reason I’m (half-)teasing Keith about this is that Dolan’s been suggested as a possible house speaker candidate and I’ve said that since he’s admitted that he lost track of the bill that originally contained the wine ban provision, shouldn’t we be extra careful in evaluating his ability to be speaker, where the workload, one would imagine, will increase exponentially?

Matt’s a nice guy but Bill Bachelder would be much more careful than Mr. Dolan.

There’s always the chance that the house will go blue, too. :)
