Judge4Yourself.com goes live tonight

From the inbox:
Who are these people?
That’s the question voters are going to ask when they vote for the judicial candidates on the March 4th primary election ballot in Cuyahoga County Democratic races (there are no contested Republican judicial races on March 4).
You will find how the five major bar associations in Greater Cleveland rated these Cuyahoga County candidates – and biographies for these judicial candidates, as well – at Judge4Yourself.com, a non-partisan website. This website, where voters can view a printable candidate grid they can take into the ballot booth, is maintained by The Judicial Candidates Rating Coalition. The grid also contains endorsements done by The Plain Dealer (the Call & Post endorsements will be available on February 19).
NOTE: The candidate grid will actually “GO LIVE” on the Judge4Yourself.com website on Saturday evening, February 9. Also note that Judge4Yourself.com only rates Cuyahoga County judicial candidates.
Judges hold an extraordinary amount of power over the lives of your readers, viewers and listeners. Yet, voters continue to play the “judicial guessing game” at election time. With your help, we can eliminate that guessing game and help qualified candidates get elected.
Judge4Yourself.com is a great resource. Maybe they’ll do a widget? hint hint

DeWine assumes it’s Trakas v. Kucinich, but what if it’s v. Cimperman?
Filed Under Campaigning, Elections, Government, Jim Trakas, Joe Cimperman, Ohio, Politics, Voting | 15 Comments
This Dayton Daily News story focuses on how much money is about to be spent on political advertising in Ohio.
Between now and the Nov. 4 election, hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent by political parties, candidates and independent groups trying to sway Ohio voters in the presidential race, said Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine.
Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern predicted that at least $50 million will be spent on the Democratic side alone.
But in what’s almost a throw-away closer, DeWine is quoted saying,
DeWine retorted [to Redfern's suggestion that Ohio Dems will pick up at least two of four currently GOP-held congressional seats] that he thinks his party will hold those seats and Republican Jim Trakas has a shot at upsetting U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Cleveland, in a Democratic stronghold because Kucinich has been too busy running for president.
Hmm – but what if Trakas’ opponent isn’t Kucinich but rather Joe Cimperman? Or Rosemary Palmer? Or Barbara Anne Ferris? Or Tom O’Grady?

Where to get Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington results
Filed Under Announcements, Barack Obama, Campaigning, Elections, Government, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Primary, Voting, WH2008 | Comments Off
Louisiana (both parties today; here on CNN too)
Try here or here for Nebraska (Dems only today) (or here on CNN).
The Washington State Democratic Party sends visitors to CNN’s election page for results (Dems only today), here. (Hmm – does CNN have some deal with all state parties, or many state parties, to try and get action? just curious)
Finally, here’s the Kansas GOP Caucus homepage and here’s CNN’s results page.

Huckabee: “I didn’t major in math. I majored in miracles…”
Filed Under Campaigning, Elections, Flip, Government, Mike Huckabee, Politics, Primary, Quotes, WH2008 | 13 Comments
Okay – that quote is in this brief post from The Caucus. It’s a really confidence-boosting statement (sarcasm) from a person who wants to govern a nation of 300 million people, with a reputation that is in the gutter, and with at least 37 million people living in poverty and 47 million without health care, isn’t it?
Just how often will GOP presidential nominee wannabe Mike Huckabee rely on the course of action called Making Miracles once he’s elected?
What does the curriculum for a major in miracles look like anyway?
You know what – don’t tell me.
When it comes to who I want to be the president and how I’d want them to govern, miracles as a general proposition for how to get things done just doesn’t cut it.

E-mails show David Shuster’s cro-magnon genes as he defends “pimped out”
Filed Under Campaigning, Elections, Hillary Clinton, Media, Politics, Quotes, WH2008, Women | 4 Comments
Update: Excellent analysis by The Moderate Voice founder, Joe Gandelman.
Politico has this article posted about MSNBC’s David Shuster and his on-air question about whether people think Chelsea Clinton’s level of participation in her mother’s campaign is unseemly and as though she’s being “pimped out.”
My favorite part?
Behind the scenes, Phil Griffin, senior vice president at MSNBC, took the criticism over Shuster’s remarks from the Clinton camp especially seriously, and Tim Russert helped mediate the situation, according to sources.
But one high-level NBC source told Politico that apologizing was an act of cowardice on behalf of the network.
“This is at least the second time they’ve caved to the Hillary Clinton campaign,” a source told Politico, referring to Chris Matthews’ recent apology over remarks he recently made about Clinton that were widely denounced as sexist. “What does this do to journalism?”
What do the apologies do to journalism? WHAT JOURNALISM? Asking viewers if they think Chelsea Clinton is being “pimped out” is journalism? Since when? Chris Matthews’ constant screeds about Hillary Clinton is journalism?
Before you go getting all over, “well see – this is what happens when we blur the editorial lines between opinion and straight news or citizen journalism and traditional journalism,” – we are talking about classically trained journalists who are employed by a classically mature broadcast conglomerate. So don’t even go there.
Hah. Whomever that source was that suggested to the Politico that what Shuster and Matthews’ do is journalism is as delusional as those two personalities.
Feh.
Oh – and here is the exchange of e-mails between Shuster and Hillary Clinton press secretary, Phillipe Reines. The ones I find most relevant after the jump. Read more

List of Ohio’s 20 superdelegates; Brazile, Bowers promise to quit Democratic party
Filed Under Barack Obama, Campaigning, Elections, Government, Hillary Clinton, Ohio, Politics, Primary, Voting, WH2008 | 7 Comments
The Plain Dealer provides an extended look at the superdelegate element of the presidential nominating process, an element unique to the Democratic party. [A note on the definition of "Superdelegate": "The Democratic Party’s official rules do not use the term "superdelegate". The formal description (in Rule 9.A) is "party leaders and elected officials".]
Included in the post is this list of who they are:
Sen. Sherrod Brown, Avon
Gov. Ted Strickland, Columbus
Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Cleveland
Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Cleveland
Rep. Tim Ryan, Niles
Rep. Zack Space, Dover
Rep. Betty Sutton, Copley Township
Rep. Marcy Kaptur, Toledo
Chris Redfern, party chairman, Catawba Island
Rhine McLin, Dayton mayor
Bill Burga, ex-president Ohio AFL-CIO, Westerville
Enid Goubeaux, ex-Darke County party chair, Greenville
Sonny Nardi, Ohio Teamsters, Broadview Heights
Rep. Charlie Wilson, St. Clairsville
State Rep. Joyce Beatty, Columbus
Mark Mallory, Cincinnati mayor
Ron Malone, ex-Ohio Director of AFSCME United, Columbus
Pat Moss, ex-president of AFSCME Council 8, Johnstown
–Two more super delegates will be chosen in May
Donna Brazile was quoted as saying, “If 795 of my colleagues decide this election, I will quit the Democratic Party. I feel very strongly about this,” Brazile said.
And Chris Bowers of Open Left wrote this post, How I Could Quit the Democratic Party, that makes the same argument. (speaking of democratic anything, Open Left crashed Firefox twice – what’s with that?)
What do I think of these protestations? Read more
