Now, if we’re talking about powerful imagery, and we all know that we’ve seen our share of images on the front pages of newspapers that we wish weren’t there - either because we wish those incidents weren’t happening, we don’t want to be reminded or the picture is simply horrific, then someone please explain to me why there is an enormous image of men’s dress shoes on the front of the New York Times? The article is titled, “Bernanke says sagging growth is chief concern.”

Is the point that the men wearing the shoes won’t be able to get those shoes shiny anymore unless they shine them themselves from now on?  What?

Sigh.  Remember this one that was also on the front page of the Times? The front page editor must have a shoe fetish or something.

I couldn’t quite read the cutline but perhaps its simply the Times’ way of reminding us of the preferred footwear of our corporate masters.

I remember being told several times that in ‘polite circles’ men’s footwear said everything about them - the style, the brand and the shine. Its one of the elite’s way of differentiating the classes. And its also why men of more modest means will shell out enormous sums for a pair of Aldens, say just to make the grade with their ’superiors.’

It could just be a bad photo! lol. Being in real estate I browse homes on line every day and some of the photos make me say ‘what were you thinking?’ (one of a filthy toilet comes to mind, but I digress). I think it could be an attempt at an artsy photo gone bad?

I think it just means its a slow news day.
I like the use of “sesquipedalian” in a headline on the front page. Classic.
