Yes, that she was elected is problematic. But I doubt she ran on the bigot ticket. I’d be a lot more hot is she’s re-elected after this little episode.

The great irony here: she alluded to putting herself in jeopardy for talking about gays…and how. Viral, baby.

  2. 2 Carole Cohen on March 9th, 2008 10:38 pm

Right up there with David Dukes; when is she up for re-election or better yet, can you say recall? Disgusting. I’m looking her up now on line.

[...] Right now, one of them is in Oklahoma getting to know a state representative there by the name of Sally Kern who has said these lovely things about our fellow human beings.  You should give her a visit, and don’t come back to Ohio [...]

Every one has choices it not wise to generalize on people.

This Woman is a State of Oklahoma representative; she is not big fish and not by any means a serious influence over anyone. She represents a western district of Oklahoma City. It is very small state district, none the less she should be held accountable for her rhetoric.

Can someone create a blog on the “The Journal Record” I would be careful though Oklahoma is conservative. They have an Opinion section on the paper’s website, I believe a moderate voice could help this situation. If saying something can get one into trouble, then maybe one should ask ones self why, saying what is correct should not get you into trouble. I say be more open minded and objective, judge a person as an individual not as a collection of people and stop imagining a bigger agenda.

Sally Kerns actually will have little affect on the evolution of society, but actually have some impact on how the Baptist church is perceived by others and not in way that is favorably.

Good for her it’s about time some politician had “the balls” to tell people about the destructive nature of the homosexual agenda and look at the hateful venomous comments that come from that same community if you oppose them…just proves she is right. They are trying to force Christians into the closet they are coming out of or trying to silence anyone who DOES NOT AGREE with their lifestyle. Well we STILL have freedom of speech in this country and Romans chapter one is still in the Bible. We make converts by asking people to humbly acknowledge the shortcomings and selfish nature of the flesh…they make their converts in other ways and they run like hiss & cockroaches when anyone tries to expose their works. I wonder what the real numbers are on people who were molested as kids that wind up in this lifestyle. I feel sorry for them if this is the case. This society is becoming so twisted..it’s unbelievable to think about it sometimes how far we have degenated in certain areas…As the good book says…in the flesh there dwelleth NO GOOD THING! In the words of Peter…REPENT both

Tim’s posts got stuck in e-mail – I’m going to guess it’s the reference to male members that did it but I don’t really know – even when I input it, it got caught.

Anyway – thanks for reading Tim and trying to leave those comments. I’m sure most people agree with you about free speech. But speaking only for myself, I disagree 100% with what Rep. Kerns believes.

  11. 11 Tim Kelley on March 11th, 2008 8:48 am

Thank you Jill that was very civil of you to do that…I am quite shocked actually.-Tim

PS. I sleep too- when I am not trying to solve the worlds problems…as if!

Tim – if you are shocked, then you haven’t been reading this blog long enough. ;)

Again – I do not agree with some of you assumptions but I trust readers to decide what does and doesn’t work for them. I edit out profanity and blatant, abject bigotry and hate. In other words, if you saw what I have sitting in moderation, you’d know what I mean. But you haven’t even really gotten close – though that’s not an invitation to try.

Thanks again and I hope you’ll keep reading and commenting.

  13. 13 oengus on March 11th, 2008 9:27 am

I believe in free speech, I have some trouble with the concept of an agenda, comes across as a master plan. Is there a homosexual agenda? You had better think about people as individuals and that those choices are their own, they own their choices and the repercussion of those choices.

People really are weird, being open mined and accepting does not leave you wide open for becoming gay. The agenda if any should be that of being open minded and objective.

Best to know whom you are for yourself and not be that affected by others, I do not care what Sally Kerns says, but if she takes those ideas into government, she violates the constitution.

There are bad Muslims and bad homosexuals if few of these are represented to judge all of them, then well, it like judging all Christians by what Sally Kern says and does.

So how can she get into trouble…by making broad generalizations that hurt people that do not deserve to be hurt?

There is no cult brainwashing people to be homosexual the same can not be said for religious groups, Sally Kern is promoting persecution and doing it in the name of the religion. Her comments equating homosexuals and Islam, as threats are a very broad persecution and represents an agenda. It will be addressed and not favorably, it will hurt the Christian faith, it is on the wrong side of objective and accepting it ignores the individuals right to choice and to do so responsibly.

I think it has much to do with a lack of concern of the other person’s soul and more with a maniacal intent to cast them into damnation. Some people are damned there lifestyle there personal choices will inevitably damn them, I would not think all of those will be the same and I am pretty sure Sally Kern will be one of them.

  14. 14 Tim Kelley on March 11th, 2008 11:55 am

I love how people say they are against broad generalizations and then proceed to make a broad generalization.

WHO is brain washing people?- why is it that when pro-gay agenda comes on PBS there is no disclaimer proceeding the program like there is for all religious broadcasting on Sundays? There is a definite prejudice against people of faith among the media, specifically people who Believe in the New Testament of the Bible. I would like to know…WHO is brainwashing?…give me some proof…if by persuading people to believe in a paticular idea–the gay lifestyle promoters are far more guilty of this than anyone. By the way, it is not wrong to try to persuade people, but when you say they do not have a right to oppose your view then this is BUNK!!(this goes both ways- I assert your right to disagree with me!) We happen to believe that those who are promoting homosexual activities and lifestyles are in complete opposition to what our faith clearly teaches, and has always taught, as you can read for yourself In Romans chapter 1, and many other places in the Bible. This is not personal. This is our faith. This has been a faith that has been highly influential in our culture,(religious liberty, abolition of slavery,40 hour work week- children’s labor laws, civil rights, etc.)MORE than any other faith. This is a faith that teaches forgiveness for those who humble themselves.(NOT for the proud) This is a faith that fights corruption. A faith that believes decency and courtesy should be shown to ALL people regardless of what they believe(as hard as that may be sometimes). This is also a faith that is not afraid to point out areas where people are being led down a path that is not in the best interest of our society and our children. This is a faith that believes their are positive consequences to positives actions and negative consequences to sinful actions. A faith that opposes the attitude of “sinning with a HIGH HAND”/ in other words doing things that are clearly wrong with a total disregard for right, People who are PROUD of their immorality and flaunt their shameful behaviour and degrade themselves publicly and loudly encourage corruption. We will just as loudly oppose the arrogant, irreverent attitudes that these people promote. We have every right to do so. There are people who legitimately struggle with vices and are not proud of their ways…these people we encourage and help and understand because ALL of us are sinners! God opposes the proud but gives undeserved mercy and forgiveness to the humble of heart through the life giving power of Jesus; the true saviour of all those who humbly acknowledge the futility of our sinful human rebellion and accept the good graces of His Lordship.

  15. 15 Natalie on March 11th, 2008 7:10 pm

You are correct in saying your religion has been highly influential, but I would also disagree with your examples. For one, the Bible has been used as a sword in order promote bigotry and hate. The Bible was used at one point in history to promote slavery, not just to abolish it. If your religion has been more influential than any other faith as you say, that doesn’t mean that all influence has been positive. You quote scripture (Romans Chapter 1) but do you also quote the inconsistencies of scripture? The first testament wasn’t even written until approx. 40 years after the death of Jesus. Can you tell me that the scholars of each testament “got it right?” You don’t think their own prejudices influenced their writings? I believe we all experience God, regardless if we believe in a religion or not. I would like to believe that my faith is not bound to my Christian upbringing but by the every day experiences I have with God. I don’t see a bias against people of faith in the media. I see an uprising of people who are tired of religion being a source of hurt instead of hope, a justification of war, not peace. If Mrs. Kern would have spoken about black people, for example, the way she did regarding gays, would you be so vocal? I see a God of relentless compassion and extravagant grace. My faith is not bound by the confounds of a book written by humans who made their own interpetations.

  16. 16 Tim Kelley on March 12th, 2008 12:39 am

unfortunately for your argument Natalie there is a huge difference between gays and blacks..Black people are a REAL minority based on something they cannot choose. This is the crux of our disagreement. You believe “gays” cannot help but be gay. We simply disagree. I believe people whatever their predisposition with discipline and only by the power of the Holy spirit can overcome any temptation. The logical conclusion to your argument is that adulterer’s/fornicators can’t help but commit adultery…after all they love woman. If we all gave into our feelings..which is the constant theme of our society so no wonder…but if we did this would lead to the ultimate breadown of our society family structures(and it is). Christ taught the greatest form ove love was sacrificial love…easier to talk about than to do. (But he did it! Christ taught us that there would be MANY false teachers-anyone who capitalizes on the teachings of Christ for their own advantage he referred to these people as goats among the sheep and he knows who they are.

  17. 17 Tim Kelley on March 12th, 2008 1:02 am

To your point again- If I am going to become a counterfeiter- I wouldn’t waste my time on 1 dollar bills. I would go for the hundred. People always counterfeit the GREAT IDEAS(which Jesus who had no personal wealth or powers to infuence obviously had.) His Ideas were so great that we are still talking about them 2000 yrs later-whether you agree or disagree with him. The fact that he did not write about himself only makes his statements more powerful. Any excellent writer can try to snow people..tehy do it in hollywood all the time. Hitler did it. LRon Hubbard did it. Joseph smith did it. Jesus didn’t. He lived it. His followers saw this sacrificial love and went everywhere under constant threat of persecution telling people…sure they wrote it down when they had time (many of them from jail).I mean to quote the Bible scholar Tom Cruise- they were living in “wild & wooly” times with not access to, or time to write everything down initially because of the intense persecution.
You are correct faith should be used to encourage people not to hurt them. The closer you get to the real Jesus of the Bible…the closer you get to the real LORD…and not the denominational counterfeit that our current culture thinks of…unfortunately. There is no need of forgiveness if there is no real evil or sin. There are consequences to our choices. Jesus gave us a stark choice. He said in no uncertain terms that was the predicted messiah(old testament)…who came to bring light to those in darkness…but they rejected him because they prefeered the darkness because their deeds are evil. I guess from your perspective his discples were all a pack of liars or pulp fiction writers…and that is your right. But we all have to live here and beyond with our choices. I think Hitler would be happy to know there is no ultimate justice for those who live in rebellion against God here on this earth.

  18. 18 Tim Kelley on March 12th, 2008 1:48 am

i TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT EXTRAVAGANT GRACE but God only extends extravagant grace-(undeserved favor) to those who ask…and who acknowledge the sacrifice & Lordship of His Son-Jesus. If you reject His SON Jesus,(If you do not acknowledge His Lordship) The Father rejects you. ROM. 10:9&10

Jesus said before he ascended- that he would send his Spirit to all those who ask..and that His Spirit would guide them into ALL TRUTH…which he said was found in the scriptures..”thy word is truth”

  19. 19 Tim Kelley on March 12th, 2008 1:49 am

Really when you look at it all either Jesus was the biggest lying con man that ever lived(DO you REALLY believe that?), OR he was a flat out lunatic because he did not reject it when people worshipped him, OR he is who he said he was, the incarnate Son of God sent as a remedy for man’s sin condition, and as an ultimate sacrifial lamb to once and for all pay for the sin of all who accept his payment on their behalf— EXTRAVAGANT undeserved GRACE.

You do know that there were people who were slave owners that came under conviction about their activities. One such man was a very wicked captain of a slave ship- years later he quit slave trafficking and gave his heart to God and became a preacher. He was influential on a young British official, William Wilberforce, who would later be THE person to overcome the tide of opposition and end slavery in England. This eventually lead to the dissolution of the slave trade triangle and ultimately to the end of slavery in America.
The ex slave captain’s name was John Newton- the author of the well known hymn…”AMAZING GRACE…that SAVED a wretch like me”.that is extravagant redemption-amazing grace…and it is extended to ALL people…to the wicked members of the Klan to the hardest criminal…to those who abuse people…to the rich and self sufficient, to the hopeless, poor and despised of humanity. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. There are no secret levels…no sophisticated pyramid scheme so you can pat yourself on the back..just humble repentance and acceptance of the lordship of Jesus. That’s all you need to restore your relationship with God the Father.

  20. 20 Tim Kelley on March 12th, 2008 2:12 am

When people “steal” all the great concepts of christianity -grace, compassion, sacrificial love, but then say it’s creators are all deceitful liars is bunk.

I mean like saying I like microsoft word but I think bill gates is the biggest idiot to ever live? does not compute.

The bible is not a smorgasboard, buffet…you don’t get to pick and choose…start your own religion restaurant without lifting all the original recipes from the Jesus restaurant.

The reason the Jesus Restaurant got such a bad critique lately is years after the establishment was opened and the original crew was gone, some newer chefs got proud and started adding in their own recipes and wearing big robes and stopped reading from the original recipe book. They forgot their main role was to serve & feed the people excellent original Jesus dishes…and instead had the people serve them dishes of their own making. Pretty soon people forgot what the original Jesus dish even tasted like…but a few people found the original recipe book and rediscovered for themselves that Jesus made the original Kick *** casserole for the soul!

Natalie wrote:”I believe we all experience God, regardless if we believe in a religion or not.”

What does experiencing God mean to you?

Natalie, If you don’t seem to care what Jesus & the disciples believed, then why should people care what you believe any more than them? What makes Natalie’s beliefs more authoritative or true than that of the original disciples? How do you come to know about experiencing God? So according to “your belief” (recently developed by yourself I assume) their input is inconsequential or they were VERY mistaken. OK..whatever you say Natalie…is apparently..TRUE!..(at least according to YOU.) Basically, it boils down to The WORD of God vs. the WORD of Natalie. Who ya gonna believe?

By the way you were right when you said it is not about believing in religion…that is what almost got Jesus stoned by the “religious” people.

The more I read Tim Kelley’s remark, the more I feel Christianity could be very narrow minded and scary… I would even think that you can keep believing in those terms in bible only because you are in the position to politically benefit from it.
Bible has been translated and revised many times in history. The word “homosexuality” is new one too. Which version of bible do you believe in? and why?

  26. 26 Michelle on March 13th, 2008 1:26 pm

I guess the studies she speaks of when she says “Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades” are the same studies that Adolf Hitler read. Here’s what Rudolh Diels, first chief of the Gestapo, said when reporting on a conversation he held with Adolf Hitler:

“He lectured me on the role of homosexuality in history and politics. It had destroyed ancient Greece he said. Once rife, it extended its contagious effects like an ineluctable law of nature to the best and most manly of characters, elimination from the reproductive process those very men on whose offspring a nation depended. The immediate result of the vice, however, was that unnatural passion swiftly became dominant in public affairs if it were allowed to spread unchecked.”

    Hmmm.

  27. 27 Tim Kelley on March 13th, 2008 5:00 pm

Ike- the fact is every ancient document has been “written and re-written”(copied many times over) There are several reasons why the authenticity of the scriptures are far more trustworthy in relation to their original contents than any of the other ancient dcoucments. One is the people theat copied them dedicated their lives to the preservation of sriptures and taking GREAT lengths to make sure they were copied correctly- if they were found to have one mistake on the page they would start ALL OVER. This copying for a large part took place in three areas, byzantine, syria, and upper egypt(Alexandria). These people had no fax machines or internet to compare notes. In the 19th century when all the documents were collated and brought together- the amoount of error was less than 1 percent and had nothing to do with meaning of passages. I prefer the NASB for accuracy, King James for beauty- NIV is good for a paraphrase as is Eugene Peterson’s the MESSAGE. In recent years there have been a lot of liberties taken..I believe translations should be just that translations and NOT interprations..I like As far as christianity being scary are you talking about the Christianity of Jesus or that of the Catholic Church…I think there is a difference.

  28. 28 Tim Kelley on March 13th, 2008 5:07 pm

Adolph Hitler(whom I despise) also wrote in “Mein Kampf”- which he wrote in prison before he rose to power. In it he said that child abuse at the hands of idle, drunken fathers was a terrible thing plaguing his homeland of Germany at the time. He condemned it. By your logic if Hitler believed something to be true then it must be false. Then according to your logic child abuse is ok?

  30. 30 concerned oklahoman on March 14th, 2008 1:15 pm

Below you will find the email address of all Oklahoma House of Representatives. It is our right to tell them how we feel about the disgust of Rep Sally Kerns hate remarks and that no punishment or hearing will be held now. Please forward and I encourage all Gay Oklahomans, their friends, and their loved ones to speak their mind. Below is the email I sent to everyone of them.
    Representative Kern,
People like you are the reason that there is a higher rate of suicide among gay and lesbian people.
People like you are the reason children need gay straight alliances at school in the first place.
People like you are giving the Christian faith a very bad reputation.
People like you are the reason many Gay Americans are scared to live their life.
People like you are the reason why Gay Americans can be murdered and it not be considered a hate crime.
Do you honestly believe that people “choose” to be gay, Sally? Are you truly that ignorant?
Why would anybody choose to be a second class citizen, and to be the victims of bigots such as yourself?
Gay people are WORSE than AlQueada???? Gay Americans just want the same equal rights and protection as every
other law abiding, tax-paying American. I have yet to read a story about a gay person strapping on a suicide belt,
so that he can blow up a bunch of straight people. To my knowledge, no gay person has ever beat up a
straight person, tied him to a fence post, and left him to die in the cold. I haven’t heard of a gay person trying
to blow up a straight bar…
If you really believe people “choose” to be gay, you must also admit that you “chose” to be straight.
Is that how it worked for you, Sally? Do you remember the day you chose to
be straight? I’m sure that would make for interesting conversation on the House floor.
I am what God made me, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I hope you will reconsider issuing an apology for the ridiculous comments you made and I hope your
fellow represenatives will ask you to do the same.
We will say a prayer for you, and hope that one day you can try to treat all Americans with respect and dignity.
The last word in our Pledge of Allegiance is “All”, not “Heterosexuals”.

I am against any one sided agenda in schools.
Children have been suspended for not wanting to participate in gay day. My best friend is gay and is completely against the agenda. The next UN type of agenda will be that of Nambla, the North American Boy Love Asc. NAMBLA is a member of the UN’s NGO board and believes we are forbidding children from their human right to have sex with audults.
It makes me nauseas just typing this.

Funny how things that use to be morally wrong are acceptable today. Who knows years down the road, in this hellish “politicaly correct” country, Nambla may get their wish. Ewwhhh!
