I picked up on this Lou Dobbs gaffe (Did Lou Dobbs Just Call Condi Rice a Cotton Picker?) from Queen of Spain’s tweet. The Huffington Posts’ entry has more than 500 comments so far.
My comment? Made me cringe and made me think, what a stupid line in general (as much as if not more so than the cotton picker slip) to push: that just because this country may in fact be the most diverse on so many levels that it’s also…what exactly? Because it isn’t by any stretch the most tolerant, accepting or embracing of the diversity it possesses. If it were, we wouldn’t be having these kinds of conversations and debates.
Watch for yourself:

This is the man that claims racism no longer exists in America. His exact words were 99.1% of Americans are not racist.
While at the same time his show nightly is a contstant litany of vieled anti Hispanic rhetoric under the guize of speaking out on illegal immigration.
Though many disagree with me I have always found CNN for the most part to be very fair and fact based in their news reporting, with one exception, Lou Dobbs.
His agenda is clearly to push his latest book. He finds a way to tie almost every news story to the topic of one of his books.
I used to write CNN in outrage often seeing his broadcasts. But now I have learned that as soon as I hear his voice at 7pm its time to turn to MSNBC to catch Chris Matthews then Keith Olbermann.
I am a lot calmer now. Laughs.
I’m confused about the fuss. I’ve watched the video twice. Why is Lou Dobbs going on about being able to talk about race? Who said we shouldn’t talk about race? Condoleezza Rice didn’t say that. Did she?
To answer the headline, “Did Lou Dobbs call Condoleezza Rice a cotton picker?” … umm, no. Not in this video anyway.
To counter the headline that he “almost” called her a cotton picker … umm, how do they know that? He said “cotton.” Nobody knows whether that was the beginning of “cotton picker” or “cotton picking.”
While folks have lots of room to criticize Dobbs on a whole host of issues (from what I understand; I rarely watch CNN), aren’t they stretching a bit on this one?
