No sooner had I gotten notice about home prices falling a record 12.7% in the last year in 20 key markets and saw this headline on my homepage about Countrywide Financial losing nearly $1 billion in the first quarter minutes apart, then I got an email alert from the Washington Post that:

VIDEO: Presidential News Conference
President Bush is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. ET. To view live streaming video of this event on the Web, go to http://www.washingtonpost.com/postlive1.

More here on the press conference:

President Bush is trying to address mounting anxieties about U.S. economic problems as energy prices soar and more Americans lose their homes in foreclosures.

The president planned to talk about those subjects in a news conference at 10:30 a.m. EDT Tuesday in the Rose Garden. The president planned an eight-minute opening statement dealing with energy prices, food costs and farm legislation, bills to help more Americans keep their homes and giving the federal government more authority to buy student loans.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Bush would discuss “American’s understandable anxiety about issues affecting their pocketbook.”

Thanks for the heads up Jill. I have CNN on my computer Sirius feed right now and will blog live on it starting at 10:30 provided I do not have too many customers.

I see Bush as that guy in “Animal House” during the final chaos during the parade screaming “do not panic! All is WELL!!!!”

But when you have the Wall Street Journal telling people in reasoned tones to start hoarding food among other indicators, we’re in trouble.

Wow – did the WSJ really do that? Sigh.

……I’d rather watch my grass grow. Please, someone tell “W” to just enjoy the White House surroundings, do not pick up a pen to sign anything. He’s got a little less than 9 months left, start packing the china and silverware, take what you want George, need some towels? Take em’, don’t try to do anything smart, Be a good ex-president and sit on your hands.

Did anyone hear what he said about getting a rabate if you owe student loans?

Look, I’m not going to post my comments here from my blog but suffice it to say for the first time in all the speeches I have ever heard from him, I wondered if he had been drinking. Seriously. The slurring speech, the disjointed syntax, the lashing out at reporters the inappropriate bonhomie. Unbelievable. I felt genuinely embarrassed for my country to show this man as our leader. Seriously – if you can listen to the whole speech see if you don’t share the same concern.

Oh by the way Jill, here’s the Wall Street Journal story:

He says it’s the fault of the Congress, everything; and he’s not going to say the ‘R’ word. Rolling my eyes can you see it from there? No one was expecting rocket science though
