Ann Fisher in the Columbus Dispatch:
The affair wasn’t enough to convince me. The sociological question of why politicians appear so prone to petty philandering is a topic for another day.
That the relationship was with his scheduler, that Capitol Square gossipmongers have fine-tuned the tawdry stories since last fall, that Dann also ignored charges that his top employees had sexually harassed subordinates, that reflects something worse.
That’s stupidity.
I don’t want someone stupid running any statewide office. I don’t want someone who will state unequivocally, more than a year into it, that he wasn’t qualified for the job when he was elected and that he’s been winging it.
Tribune Chronicle: Dann was warned about former aides; does that make him a lawyer in charge of the state’s law office who acted with reckless disregard in his hiring practices?
No state party leaders came to the attorney general’s defense.
There was co comment from Mr. Dann, 46, on Tuesday. He sent a memorandum to his staff on Monday apologizing for his mistakes and promising to stay in office. “I think that there is a great chance that we can continue to do great work for the people of the state,” he wrote.
He announced a management shakeup, changes to hiring and employee fraternization policies and his intention to “set the right tone” for future success. “From here on out, we will conduct ourselves in a professional manner befitting the great work we have done,” Mr. Dann wrote.

10TV: AG Office employee says the majority of employees want Dann to resign
Columbus Dispatch poll of Ohio legislators:
Of 51 lawmakers interviewed among the 132 in the House and Senate, 44 said Dann should resign and seven had no comment. None said he should stay in office.
But most lawmakers stopped short of pledging to support an impeachment resolution, saying they need to see evidence that Dann’s misdeeds rise above irresponsible behavior.
“I don’t know whether we should impeach somebody for being stupid,” said Rep. Joseph F. Koziura, a Lorain Democrat.

It will be interesting to see whether the Republicans try to stretch this process out a bit, to keep Dann in office longer.
[…] signatures, at least 603,413 . As an update - when I was reading Jill’s blog, her post The Daily Dann pointed out this: Of 51 lawmakers interviewed among the 132 in the House and Senate, 44 said Dann […]
I’m curious about these democrats that want Dann out but were the first people to defend Clinton in the 1990’s.
What’s the difference?
What has Marc “Dannimal” House done above and beyond what Bill Clinton did as president that has you wanting his resignation? To my knowledge, Marc “Dannimal” House did not commit perjury (Paula Jones). He never attempted an unsolicited grope (Kathleen Willey). He never asked another to commit perjury.
I’ve been consistent on my belief that any conduct that could cause a public official to be compromised should result in his immediate resignation, impeachment, etc. This includes Mark Foley, Larry Craig, William Jefferson, Ted Kennedy et al.
Yet most of the people I’m reading here were the same people to give BJ Clinton a pass not so long ago.
There is a Sean Stipe on the ballot that one in the 56th House District can vote for instead of Koziura. Thankfully, even if Koziura wins, he won’t be able to run for that seat again in 2010 due to term limits.
Dann’s behavior cannot be attributed to stupidity. Dann’s behavior has been calculating, arrogant, defiant, narcissistic, bullying, lustful, mean-spirited, conspiratorial, condescending, unscrupulous, insensitive, obstructive, opaque, unprofessional, and especially exploitative. He exploited the AG’s office for all the perks it could afford him and his Youngstown cronies, including an expensive Dublin condo, luxury vehicles, and women. The women who were the perks weren’t groupies, they were SUBORDINATE EMPLOYEES who were EXPECTED to cave in to the indecent proposals of their bosses. One of this wolf pack of co-conspirators of Dann even had the nerve to tell a female employee that she OWED him, that she got the job based on her female anatomy. Dann had to have known all about this stuff. Giving women an income in exchange for sexual favors? That’s compelling prostitution! That’s PIMPING!!!!
Well just for the record, I didn’t. I’m as leftist as anyone you’ll find and I thought Clinton was a disgrace to the office and had no one to blame but himself for his problems. Even today I cannot stand to listen to him for more than a few seconds.
Public office is a public trust, after all.
I wouldn’t mind having his economy back though at this point. Not at all. Jeez, we could actually afford things like gas and food back then. The dollar was actually worth something. I had health insurance.
I miss those days.
What were you saying about a BJ again?
Dann’s conduct is a lot worse than the Clinton/Lewinsky stuff. It goes way beyond Dann’s affair with his scheduler. Dann is responsible for hiring guys like Gutierrez and Jennings and for the unprofessional atmosphere, and loss of taxpayer dollars, that those hires created. He has disgraced the office of the Attorney General.
…..hey Joe Koizura….stupid is…..as stupid does.
Following up on my post above, Clinton never admitted that he was unprepared to hold the office.
I still can’t believe Dann said that. Just amazing.
Sheesh! Does no one appreciate how hard it is for me to NOT to a 138 Reasons Why Marc Dann Should Resign effort (those are the number of days until Sept. 24)?
You are all evil and torturing me!
I get irritated when I hear people say it’s only about the sex with his scheduler (which seems to be the pro-Dann spin in the past few days). It’s about so much more than that.
