From Robert Novak via Real Clear Politics:

Close-in supporters of Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign are convinced he never will offer the vice presidential nomination to Sen. Hillary Clinton for one overriding reason: Michelle Obama.

The Democratic front-runner’s wife did not comment on other rival candidates for the party’s nomination, but she has been sniping at Clinton since last summer. According to Obama sources, those public utterances do not reveal the extent of her hostility.

A footnote: Support is growing in Democratic ranks for Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland as vice president. He would bring to the ticket maturity (66 years old), experience (six terms in Congress) and moderation (rated “A” by the National Rifle Association). He is very popular in Ohio, a state Republicans must carry to elect a president.

What’s Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher thinking about these days?

Sigh. Come January 2009, the Ohio statewide offices could look a whole lot different than they did in January 2007.

But better or worse?

Worse. Dann will still be in office because state political figures will have done nothing about their promise to impeach him, and Lee Fisher will be governor. Yuck. Who will Fisher name as Lieutenant Governor? Jimmy Dimora? Jerry Springer?

The sad thing is, in the event of an Obama win, even if Strickland isn’t VP, he could be tapped for a cabinet position and we’re still stuck with Lee Fisher as Governor.

President McCain sounds awfully good to me right now.

    Happy Mother’s Day, Jill!

Aw, Daniel - I think you are overreacting. From a clinical perspective, please remember it’s only been just over a week since the Espy report was released. Second, you are just being cute re: who Fisher would appoint. He would appoint me before either of those two. :)

Finally, I can buy that you think McCain “sounds” good but I also believe that you know better.

It’s going to go quickly, between now and November, but it’s still a good chunk of time.

Happy Mother’s Day to you too. :)

If TS was selected, and they won the White House:

    Gov - Fisher
    Lt. Gov - ?
2010 Senate candidate - Ryan (and he might be regardless)

    Yeah, that’d be different.

Aw - Red - are you being tongue-in-cheek? For one thing, Fisher is heavily ID’d with NE Ohio and urban areas. He’d also be the first Jewish governor for Ohio, wouldn’t he? I can’t pretend to really know either one, but they appear to me to be products of very different experiences and support from different constituencies within Ohio.

Ryan instead of Voinovich would look different, yes?

So - were you being tongue in cheek? lol
