your fifth grader asks you if you were alive during the Great Depression.

Unless she’s talking about the early years of marriage?

That’s ok - my high school students asked me if I had ever heard of a Saturday detention. When I queried, “you mean like the Breakfast Club?”, they looked at me and extremely puzzled said, “no, like school on Saturday. What’s a breakfast club?”.
    Oy!

For what it’s worth, I have a younger sister who used to ask me if it was true that Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings.

Thanks, Lara. I wore my 40th birthday proudly because I was thrilled to have reached that age at all but I’m backtracking a bit on the “just look how old I’ve gotten despite bad choices” thing now. :)

Hi Gordon, THAT had me laughing out loud! That’s a really good one, lol. Still snickering.

So - this morning, my second grader declares that some character in the comic strip “Baby Blues” resembles Sarge in Beetle Bailey. And I say, “do you read Beetle Bailey? And he says, “no but I used to when I was a child.”

Sigh - kids. Thank GOD for kids. :)

    Shalom Jill,

I thought the great depression was the weeks immediately following the 2004 election.

    B’shalom,

    Jeff

Hmm - there are a lot of time periods vying for that distinction. Maybe we need to start re-naming with words like “super” depression and “uber” and so on - like superduper majorities, you know?
