Wow. Twittering through Twitter too.

From News Net 5:

Tim Russert, host of NBC’s “Meet the Press” and a political analyst for “NBC Nightly News” and the “Today” program, has died of a heart attack, The New York Times reported Friday, citing family.

Russert, 58, joined NBC News in 1984. He took over the helm of “Meet the Press” in December 1991, according to his biography on the show’s Web site. Russert has interviewed every major figure on the American political scene, his biography said.

Earlier this year, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Russert was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on May 7, 1950. He is a graduate of John Carroll University and also graduated with honors from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, his biography said.

Freaky.

I’m so sad about this. I have friends from around the Country who are calling me (they are expat Clevelanders and Ohioans). It’s doubly sad that he didn’t get to find out who won this election, although in the scheme of things, that’s not as important as his family losing him. Oh well, death may be a part of life but it doesn’t make it any less sad.

He will be missed by those who knew and loved him and by those TV watchers who would like to have known him better.

Judy and Carole -I agree. It’s just so unexpected. Esp. in this election season. He shaped so much of it for the viewers and people who tuned in.

    RIP indeed.

Maybe I am just cynical, but a whole bunch of people over the last 17 months had a lot to say about timmah, and none of it was good. Personnally I was very offened by timmahs so called style of journalism. Ambushing the person being interviewed, failure to ask followup questions, esp questions to republicians, and throwing softballs to Sen. McCain all the while denying that the village was rooting heavily for McCain. Totally sexist remarks made about Sen Clinton-while I have never been a fan of her’s, it was still not right. But what really offended me was when he blackballed Ms. Huffington from MSNBC, because she wrote something critical of him. Overall I thought very little of him, he spent way to much time in debates talking instead of listening. On many MTP programs it seemed that his ego and his intelligence ment more than actually interviewing whoever the victim of the week was. If he had heart problems, and was not getting treatment, then it was his fault for not seeing a Dr. for a physical at least once a year. My wife said, whenever she saw him on TV that he looked like he had a health problem because his face was so red. Her experience, owning a small town bar for almost 30 years. Nobody makes it out of life alive, everybody dies. But the gushing from people in the blogosphere is sickening. Most of those who are now praising him, were damning him just last week.

Tim Russert really inspired myself and so many of my contemporaries to enjoy and learn more about politics because he made it seem less intimidating and interesting. I will certainly miss him on election night. RIP and prayers for his family.

Hi Kim, Thanks for sharing that. I’m not even sure the impact has hit me completely yet, but he was a welcome figure for the most part. I was not happy with some of his style this year, but I do believe that he acted from pure passion and what he believed to be what we needed to know. I didn’t always agree with that, but then, who does?

    Godspeed to his family.

I was away at a Conference yesterday and when I got back to my room late in the afternoon there was an urgent message from my husband with news of Tim’s death. I can’t get over the sense of sadness I have right now. Yes I’m sad for his family’s loss but someone else said earlier about how he might feel missing the election being the political junkie that he was! I’m sad he won’t be able to enjoy it and I’m going to miss having him cover what could be one of the most historic political events in a long time.

Sunday mornings won’t be the same.

RIP Tim Russert and God bless.
