Do you call or write people, go places, get responses and report back on your blog? That’s ‘Roots News and if you’re doing it, let’s highlight it!
Here are some great recent examples:
The Chief Source: Annie Hanson was at the Ohio Go Run! training for women who would like to run for political office, from June 6-8 in Columbus, Ohio and wrote about what it was like to be in the same room with 50-75 other women, as we watched Hillary Clinton get it on with moving on. Kelley Wentzlaff wrote about it very movingly here.
Gloria Ferris and a group of women in the NE Ohio area have been working on the Women’s Enterprise Network for several months. They did their first show this past weekend.
Gloria did ‘roots news of her own when she learned that Positively Cleveland was positively not interested in a postcard promo of her neighborhood which they’d previously welcomed. I sent an e-mail to Amando Marko to follow-up and we’ll see what happens.
Joseph at Plunderbund pursued, nabbed and brought down the production of the very wrong and not even arguably racist object, The Sock Obama. I’d still really like to hear directly from the work-for-hire manufacturer who really sounds like a model for how to integrate information that you sincerely had not considered or taken seriously until other people explained just how much it hurt and bothered them - he decided to not be the manufacturer of the product.
And finally, over the weekend, Tim Russo of Blogger Interrupted set out to provide some information to an Ohio resident who bought into all the e-mail smears about Barack Obama, without checking up on any of the assertions. Russo offered some information to her to set the record straight. I hope he follows up with her to see what her reaction is now, and whether she’ll start some some positive memes about Obama, to help correct all the people she may have influenced with the incorrect myths.
I know there are many other examples by bloggers like Callahan’s Cleveland Diary, Glass City Jungle, Ohio Daily Blog, The Word of Mouth Blog and Buckeye State Blog. So post them or e-mail them but most of all, readers who want to see what’s happening through regularly Ohio residents can read this really important work.

I spent an hour on the phone with a NY journalist who wants to flog a story to Rolling Stone about pro-gun Democrats. A sympathetic article. This is a result of political activity as well as blogging.
