From the Los Angeles Times:

An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll found a wide gap last week: Women favored Obama over McCain, 52% to 33%. The survey also found that voters who cast ballots for Clinton in the Democratic primaries preferred Obama over McCain, 61% to 19%.

That’s at the end of the piece. From the middle:

“Women are voting for Obama because they dislike [President] Bush, they dislike McCain, they dislike the war, and they’re upset about the economy, and those facts override any concerns about the Clinton-Obama primaries,” Democratic pollster Mark Mellman said.

During the final weeks of the Democratic race, Obama took pains to praise Clinton almost daily and to avoid any appearance that he was trying to force her to drop out.

In the days since Clinton abandoned the race and endorsed him, the political arm of Planned Parenthood and other women’s groups have rallied behind Obama and joined forces to attack McCain. Among other things, they have highlighted McCain’s opposition to abortion rights. The Republican’s moderate image, they say, has misled many women into thinking he supports abortion rights.

“It’s astonishing the extent to which that’s just assumed about him,” said Hesla.

All good news for Democrats.  But the LAT could have at least said “lining up to support” as opposed to”lining up behind.” Oh well.

that’s beautiful. a bunch of women line up to attack the guy who served in the military for the purpose of protecting them and their families and align themselves in order to support and protect the guy who has attended a racist church for the past twenty years where the leader of the church has openly voiced his disdain of them and just recently featured a guest speaker who mocked and ridiculed their standard bearer (hilary). confusing, very confusing. no, it is not me spewing. it is the factual record. not pretty, but true. very true.

Not much makes me sadder, seems to take the wind out of me more, than reducing people’s thoughts and ideas to their lowest common denominator. We are all, as humans, so much more than that. I hope Joe, you get that in the end.

it is indeed a sad situation. i’ll agree with you there.

Ok – as a passiver reader here, I’m quite sure Joe in #3 is not talking about the same sadness as Carole.

And that kind of intentional conflation is itself sad.

carol, maybe in the end you’ll get that you should show some loyalty and reverence to the people who have made tremendous sacrifices for the freedoms that you enjoy today instead of being loyal to people, who by their own admission, can’t stand you. they’re just gonna keep using you for all they can get from you. if you don’t know that by now i’m afraid it’s a little too late.

Joe, if I were you I’d give it up. Without a healthy exchange of ideas it’s not worth it.

it’s a good thing that us clingers to guns and religion have people like you to think for us. i don’t know what we’d do if it weren’t for that.

whoops, i seem to remember that washington, jefferson, adams, madison, payne, roosevelt (both of them), lincoln, mcarthur, truman, etc. etc. etc. that also clung to guns and religion in order to free themselves from religious persecution imposed upon them by the brits and to protect the freedoms gained after the revolution. they clung to both guns and religion and you are a free american today because of it. so, i think i can identify with their philosophy much easier than i can identify with yours or obama’s. if that makes me someone who “doesn’t get it” in your view – so be it.

Yes Joe we can see that your as blindly proud of your country (the mythology you worship) as you are of your ignorance. You might want to recheck your history of American presidents before you claim things that might not be in the historical record (i.e. guns and religion).

well, mr. bad, your insultive tone would be of concern to me if i had any inkling that you have come to the aid of your country in any meaningful was as i have for the past 30 years. if you really laid your life on the line to protect your fellow american citizens and their freedoms as myself and john mccain have done, then perhaps i’d lend some credence to your opinion. but until you achieve the requisite stature to attack people like me (i.e. be able to cash the checks with your ass that you write with your mouth), you’ll continue to be ridiculed as a sideline sitting whiner who doesn’t have what it takes to defend this country and it’s people. as a consequence, your opinion is of little value. i’m afraid it is you who is naive. enlist or be dissed.

oh, and carol, you seem to suggest that the only healthy exchange of ideas is that exchange in which the person with whom you are conversing is in political lockstep with you. someone who disagrees with you is engaging in an “unhealthy” discussion. i see. never changes with you people (yes i said you people). call me a name now, or something.
