Hasn’t been in the news too much but it should be, because for many people, it’s a fact of life.

I’m not really sure what positions I support, beyond pressing profiteering employers – I will always choose to pay more if it means less exploitation of humans.  On the other hand, what percentage of people wouldn’t be able to afford what percentage of goods or services if those employers hired anyone other than illegal immigrants and thus, they argue, spent more on employees?  How much truth is there to illegal immigrants coming to this country in order to find jobs and have a better quality of life or chance for a better quality of life? And does it really matter when we’re dealing with issues of treating people with decency, regardless of their legal status?

Why don’t I know the answers to what seem to be basic questions?  And where do I find the answers?

What role can I play?

I don’t have any answers yet, exactly, but blogs that I follow offer great starting points.  And I hope that as the summer and fall continue, and I know I’m going to have a chance at places like BlogHer to engage with people who do know these issues well, well – here’s to getting educated and making some commitments.

Start with the Law Professors’ Immigration Blog. Then, watch Voices From A Raid, from the American News Project:

Immigration arrests from worksite raids have increased tenfold in the last five years. As politicians on both sides of the aisle grapple with the issue, families are caught in the middle. ANP went to Annapolis, MD to see how people were coping in the aftermath of the state’s largest immigration roundup in years.

Jack – thanks very much. I didn’t submit anything myself because I didn’t feel like anything was close enough (just announcements etc. related to Jewish people!).

But yeah – this issue of immigration and the raids in Iowa probably have been fodder on HH. I’ve wanted to take to time to find more stories and different perspectives about it, from the kosher employer aspect.

Have a good week and thanks.
