Officials say three people were shot Thursday afternoon at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, and two of them were critically injured.
A witness said the shooter had been fighting with another man in a computer building. The gunman seemed to be directing his shots and not firing randomly, said student Yessenia Lara, 18.
“I saw someone get punched and then I heard three shots after that. Everybody basically ducked, and the shooter got away,” Lara said, adding that the victims were yelling in pain.
A 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were in critical condition, while a 17-year-old boy was in stable condition, said Mark Faulkner, a division chief for the Phoenix Fire Department. No other information on their injuries was available.
Okay – remind me – who gets the self-defense defense in a situation like this? I keep forgetting.
Here’s a site for the college and here are some blog search results.
Update: More here. Allegedly this was a planned confrontation by the assailant.

Some people can not handle their own thoughts, once it is in your head what do you do with it. Seems like you are attempting to connect it to another separate event and then to firearms in general. You did and of course you can, but why?
Why take a horrible human tragedy and instance when the weak in mind loose it and make it into something else? I have, we all have, seen the horrible cruelty that many people are cable of, the things they say the action they take. Its not just the person that takes up the weapon, its those that rant with little or no regard as well.
These things these events are complex events that unfold over time with many players and many circumstances. The group that makes fun of the individual, austersized, excessively criticized and then their inability to rationalize it. That includes everyone, you may think there are plenty of fish in the see, but pay attention to the school around you.
We have this horrible system of fake communication, the lack of sincerity is overwhelming and surrounds people, when they go back to their group, if it exists at all, then what, is it reinforced, usually, or is it analyzed taken apart with patience and understanding or is enraged with senseless rants?
To me its victims, all of them victims of their society.
It so difficult to be independent you always have to be accountable to someone, the stress it to much if individuals are not groomed for it. Insecurity and fear, then often compounded my the groups that surround us. Different is different, not weird, the group think is so dangerous.
What did the shooter see? What was the shooter compelled to kill off? It begins with distaste, dislike, hatred for most it ends there, in this case it did not. Odd isn’t it those that can not manage their own thoughts? That the frontal lobe it stops the fantasy from be acted out in reality, that could be an impairment that is physical or it could be that the person just was perpetually inundated with irrational behavior by example, looking for logic and reason and never finding it and certainly not able to develop it on their own.
Some demanded over the counter abortion pills how about over the counter cyanide for the tormented people, victims could take the door marked easy exit. That would bring about a bunch of faked up suicides, people many would kill off those around them, kill people for money, individual freedom or any number contrived reasons. We ride the line on those ten commandments don’t we. They are the top ten things we have a propensity to do…actually survival instinct that are counter with communication skills, language actually which is rooted in rationalization and backed with real knowledge.
Oengus, complexity is no excuse and if anything, the more complex something is, the more opportunities we have to alter the outcome.
I appreciate your comment – it’s clear and thoughtful. But I disagree with your implication that there’s no reason to add this instance to the catalogue of those that did not have to happen – for any number of reasons.
jill, about a week ago i stopped at the dairy mart in my westside neighborhood. all i wanted to do was to get five dollars worth of gas for my motorcycle. as i walked in, i observed a large black guy with his black girlfriend standing at the counter and exchanged hellos with him. shortly after that, another black fellow got into line behind me and i looked to see who was in line behind me. at this time this second male asked me “what the f*** you lookin like that at me fo?” then he says “you got something (money) on you don’t you?” at this point, the first male began to move around on my other side to get slightly behind me. a third black male heard the disturbance, emerged from the back of the store, and stood directly behind me. sensing trouble, i stepped back to get outside the circle that they now had me surrounded with. i then told the big mouth if you got a problem with where i’m lookin – do something about it or shut the f*** up.” at this time, the first black guy who was going to join the other two in what i think was a robbery attempt decided i was no chump or easy mark and decided to bail out and leave the store with his girlfriend. now, i’m left with the other two punks, both of whom i was confident i could handle. they, sensing this as well, went outside and tried to convince the first guy to come back so that they would then have their 3-1 advantage again. he declined and kept walking and at this point i had the opportunity to pay for my gas and exit the store. males 2 and 3 then muttered something to me as i was leaving and i told them to get the hell away from me and i didn’t want to talk to them. if they don’t, there’s gonna be trouble. i was packing a 38 caliber chiefs special revolver. i never pulled it or showed it, but was willing to use it. they both stood in front of the store for awhile not wanting to leave and make it appear as if the older white guy had chumped them at their own intimitation game. i could not leave either since i was on a motorcycle and they could have run me down with their car when i left the parking lot pretty easily. so it was a mexican standoff. the big mouth finally got into an suv being driven by a white girl (dumbass) and the other guy got into a separate vehicle. after they left, i got right on their bumper revving my harley davidson as loudly as i could to try to bait them into stopping and taking the little bastard on – one on one. needless to say they didn’t stop. this just happened a few days ago. this is life in the innercity. [people] think they can intimidate you from going to the store in your own neighborhood. ain’t gonna happen here. somebody’s gonna get hurt – either me or them. just to infuse a little reality into all of this utopian theoretical hypothetical gibberish.
