Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer have a kind of live-blog (the most recent post right now is timestamped at 12:37pm) about what sound like numerous simultaneous raids on county offices this morning, starting around 9am.

Given the kookie, craziness of moves and statements by some of our county officials and the intense displeasure many residents have with the reality, reputation and perception of how some elected Cuyahoga county officials conduct themselves from what seem at times to be what they seem to treat as their fiefdoms, this news is not surprising and I would think people who are a lot closer to the action than I am might be wondering why it didn’t happen earlier.

Some other predictions (that are just predictions based on the little I know and the great amount about which I, like everyone else, can speculate):

We’ll hear that it’s politically motivated by opponents.

We’ll hear it’s connected to the journalism coverage of the county over the last few months.

We’ll hear that maybe it’s some current elected officials against others.

Or, maybe, we’ll learn that residents and voters just got so damn tired of so much old boys network crap going on and dysfunctional lack of leadership that finally enough complaining, calling and tipping off led to something.

Of course, in a situation like this, you always have to wonder: will we be any better off tomorrow, or even a year from tomorrow?

    Suprise? Not a chance.

    Some might say a relief?

    Hi Jill,
    My prediction:
It will be about more of the same. Power hungry, scummy politicians, who are making money, have power, and want more of both, making stupid choices in friends, and are just plain greedy and now are just plain …caught. It never changes. Money and power. Colliding.
I am not even a tiny bit shocked.

Now – I will take that on, Joel. :)

Let’s say that there is some kind of clean out that gets rid of some of the least desirables. Then, we have to elect others – don’t we take some responsibility for the quality of the replacements? Yeah? no? Hmm…

    :)

    Jill,
Call me calloused. Ok. Call me Joel. Whatever. My faith in our “system” is not real high, sorry. I think there may be a few ethical politicians out there. And , yes we must make sure they get elected. But I just don’t trust most of them with my county, my money, or pretty much anything. Why is it that a small business owner like some folks that I am close with are ethical and can’t be “bought”, but politicians of all types can be?

“We’ll hear it’s connected to the journalism coverage of the county over the last few months.”

Oh, we’ve ALREADY heard that — they were playing Hagan quotes on the news tonight that said pretty much EXACTLY that. I’m not surprised, but I have been dancing around the house yelling “Christmas in July!”, so that should give you an idea as to my opinion.

You doin’ the happy dance without me!? I miss ALL the fun!

The whole thing is said because it does come back to us. I wrote from the start about not liking or approving of Jimmy Dimora tactics and I know politicians who haven’t even been elected yet who will say, well he wasn’t that way with me but yeah, I’ve heard.

And you know what – we do not get to stand by and turn our heads. This is our county and our vote and our fault if we do not vote differently when we get the chance. Argh – drives me nuts – that’s muttering to myself btw – not at you. :)

And this goes for the Republicans in the county too – what are they doing actively to get their butts in gear to give a real challenge? I hear from people in Bay that Debbie Sutherland is not worth the vote – I don’t know her, I don’t know Bay but I trust the people who tell me this.

So where are the leaders?? And where and how many times have we heard that before – on BFD, and Bill’s blog and Jeff and many others.

    Harrumph.
