Yeah, well, given the threats I was getting just before leaving town for two weeks, I didn’t feel like making a big announcement but if you’re curious to know where I was, you can start here.I hope to write often and in great detail over the next several days but the fact is, it’s hard to imagine that my writing from this moment on won’t somehow reflect the last two weeks I spent in Israel with my family and 31 members of my synagogue, our tour guide, bus driver, youth counselors and many other individuals along the way. What do you want to know about first?

Welcome back. We decided when you were gone you had to do the Carnival every week from now until the election.

Does that mean I get to editorialize more than I usually do too? :)

    Sure.

Okay – wait – I take it back.

What did you eat that was tasty? Do you cook like that at home? And when are you inviting me to dinner? :)

So glad to have you back safe and sound. I can’t wait to read your thoughts about the border and your observations of Israeli/Palestinian communication.

Unique – ALL the food was tasty! :)

To start with, the freshness of everything – the veggies and the fruits especially. We were picking pomegranites, olives and carob right from the trees, in courtyards of homes.

The kids loved getting chocolate bread and chocolates spread for breakfast and one of the most popular snack food/junk food is Bamba.

When we were in an Israeli Arab village called West Barta, which is west of the Green Line and in Israel (though East Barta is in the West Bank but also west of the Green Line and the security fence – meaning, there’s no formal boundary – I’ll write about it later), we bought a carton of fresh figs – nothing like Fig Newtons.

We ate St. Peter’s fish with the heads on and our youth counselor ate the eyes.

No – I do not cook like that! My kids ate chicken nuggets twice in eight hours once we got home. Perdue. Their request. We did drink Israeli wine this evening though.

    Hay! Khaver!

Ikh hob dikh azoyfil nokh gebenkt.

Am I the only person who is experiencing problems with the way the web page is displaying?

Oengus – it’s Chaver as in chaverim. :)

I am guessing that’s either German or Yiddish?

The page looks fine to me – I use Firefox on a MacBook w/Leopard.

Welcome back. Missed your voice in cyberspace, but I am loving your “Write of Return” blog and the pictures. Thanks for going through the work of posting them.

    Thanks, Lilatov. ;)

I’m working on uploading photos and making albums etc. Hopefully they will be ready to share later this week.
