Poverty rankings from the Census Bureau are out here (an AFL-CIO e-mail I received which I can’t find online anywhere states that Toledo, Cincinnati and Cleveland are three of the ten poorest cities in the country; Plain Dealer says Cleveland is #2, with Detroit ahead of us - wow, those casinos are really making a difference up there, aren’t they?).

Report cards for Ohio’s schools are here.

Glass City Jungle provides several links for the school reports here.

Plunderbund on charter schools and the report cards is here.

We are now in 2008 and the last census was in 2000…

That’s industry, its public research dollars.

If a legislator say tabulate the IRS information the above has a conniption, they make money guessing. Then the AFL-CIO will chime in, with do you really want all of your personal information disclosed to everyone. I am sure a somebody will find away to make it all into a mother huddling in a line for health care with her starving children.

The local government knows what the IRS knows, they also collect income taxes.

The census is once every ten years and only asks one in five what their household income is. It’s called a long form and then eight years later they guess what has changed, they started with a guess.

Detroit has acquired proprietary software, they are tabulating and the statistics are different they have positive growth. It is not directly related to casinos, but evidences does exist that they were catalyst in the cities development. It is poor city as is Cleveland and that is correlated with the African American population. That is entrenched in poverty, but seems like Detroit is moving forward not backwards.

If gaming is killing Detroit some body needs to tell them about it.
