What worries me is that she is not qualified to be president of the US. She wants people to see her as one of them, but do we really need a VP who took 6 years to graduate from college after transferring to 5 or 6 differents schools? She may be like millions of middle class Americans but how does that qualify her to be a heartbeat away from the leader of the free world?

Thanks for this post. We really need to get beyond whether or not Palin is a "good" mother and whether she'll be "distracted" by her kids. We need to look at her policies. THAT's what we should be evaluating. I don't care whether her teen daughter is pregnant, and I don't care about the "redneck" bf. I want to know about what PALIN is likely to do in the (somewhat likely) event she becomes our first female president should McCain win in the fall.

Well - I would still say that I'd like to see on balance what she IS supporting - in other words, what did she do for abstinence-only funding - increase it? I've heard not a WORD about her on social services - it's been all oil and gas taxes all the time. I know there's more than that - but it's not what they've emphasizing and it's what I care about.

What I'm having trouble with is what seems like a pattern of saying one thing to get elected and doing another. And it makes no sense to be pro life and celibacy but pro cutting funding to programs that would help teen mothers. It's all weird if you ask me.

According to Carroll John Morse, here:

Covenant House asked the Alaska legislature to provide $10 million [for expansion], the legislature answered with $5 million in the 2009 budget. Governor Palin cut the figure back to $3.9 million -- for this year. [...N]o existing program that helps teenage mothers or the children of teenage mothers has been affected by this budget decision, and calling a one-time infusion of $3.9 million [...] a "cut" only makes sense if you can't do math[.]

More financial details here.

. “I suppose you can call that not politics as usual.”

You also could call it experience? But only if you are a Republican I suppose?

Which I am not…I am not interested in four more years of flag waving, I get my feeling of pride from something more tangible. I have apprehension about this woman becoming commander and chief and that she likes guns and is gleeful as her son enters the army. Warriors?

The problems are or need to be addressed as factual and actual, not drive by theology or ideology.

Bidden loves public research data, I do not it is nearly all biased and manipulated.

Are you seeking to answer a question or are you looking to prove your point. Qualitative vs. quantitative, what is actual and what is highly subjective.

I personally would never throw around survey polls, even if I could see every bit of the sampling process, I never could or can validate them. Most of my peers begin in bias with earnest and where highly defensive when called on it. Wish craft or witchcraft if it not based on truth its a lie and wrong. Marketing people diminish the value of math and the use of event probabilities.

I am having some trouble with this covenant house dollar amount.

http://covenanthouseak.org/pdfs/Financials/Fiscal%20Year%202007.pdf

The amount is not reflected in the past year financial statements? The covenant house is not funded by the state, is it?

It very misleading, the 5M and the 3.9M amounts being referred to as funding in the content from WAPO and then in the link to WTTU it is a veto of the state paying 3.9 million to build a new shelter. That would have been a grant, not sure since the articles contradict each other.

What thing is for sure though covenant house is not funded by government and certainly not slashed by 20%.

The tangled web?

Great post Jill - neatly summarizes "issues" with Palin's nomination in a balanced manner.

Thanks - I needed this!
