And Judy has a blog, and Judy is a hockey mom. Read it here.
Aside from being female, this [being a hockey mom] may be the end of what I have in common with Sarah Palin and, to be honest, I was never one of those pit bull moms. I don’t think I’d ever heard of pit bulls in the 70’s. I was more of a yellow lab, but that could be a question of style. No doubt Sarah has her own style. And she’s a good speaker whether or not she writes her own speeches. But it’s her politics and religious right beliefs that scare me most.
I agree with Obama that children of candidates should be off limits. But in this case, Bristol’s pregnancy at 17, says a lot about Sarah’s politics. She’s against comprehensive sex education in schools. She favors “abstinence only” programs. She doesn’t want teens to learn about birth control. She doesn’t want them taught that condoms, when used properly, can protect them not only from pregnancy, but from disease. She’s anti-choice for women of all ages — she’s against abortion as an option even in cases of pregnancy caused by rape or incest. She would overturn Roe v Wade if given the chance. I’m not telling Sarah what’s right for her family and I don’t want her deciding what’s right for mine. Or for any of our families.
…
I don’t know about you, but I’m making my decisions based on the issues. There are no “do overs” here. We have to choose a leader whose judgment we respect. One who doesn’t make important decisions based on gut feelings. That’s why I want the calm, thoughtful, intelligent, knowledgeable candidate who will surround himself with the best and the brightest. That’s why I’m supporting Barack Obama.
What I don’t need is some sarcastic hockey mom who describes herself as a pit bull, who flaunts her pregnant teenager and her new special needs infant, a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Ah, Forever Judy Blume.

Jumping up and applauding!
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been trying to figure out why I am so annoyed with the whole hockey-mom-as-badge-of-honor thing, and this helps. I can do without the sarcasm, too.
I never was a hockey mom, but I did once belong to the NRA and shoot a gun.(never killed anything with it)Like you, I’m more retriever than pit bull.- Out to give kisses and tail wags, not out for blood. I’m not voting for her either. I have a lot more in common with Obama- especially concern for families- those without health care, single women with children living in poverty, fathers and mothers who are out of a job and homeless or close to it, military families who have a parent deployed overseas for a third or fourth time or are struggling to help a loved one damaged emotionally or physically from the war. I could go on and on. Yep- I have a lot more in common with Obama and Biden.
Wow, an Obama supporter who makes comments like this:
“I hope Hillary’s sisterhood will now support Obama”
Doesn’t like Palin. That’s shocking Jill.
A man would be aggressively making his points, he would be demonstrating his “rapier wit” a woman is “sarcastic” or “shrill”…
What I find troubling is that since you are writing this as a voter too, that you aren’t spending much time on why anyone should share your selection, just why you and anyone you can find online doesn’t like Palin. For those on the fence? You probably are pushing them towards Palin rather than away from Palin and all you are doing is getting kudos from those who were already going to vote for Obama.
You are associating yourself with people that make some pretty hateful comments that frankly have more than just me surprised at you. As well has having made some comments yourself that give one pause.
What ever happened to holding our party and ourselves to a higher standard of behavior?
Anyone that wonders what I’m talking about should visit The Point (listed here under the Politics-Ohio-MSM category) and read some of the comments made by Jill and others from the Democratic side of the blogosphere during the night when Palin and then the next night when McCain spoke.
I get slammed for supposedly having a bias, but I can certainly say I would never make comments about Obama’s children, or his wife or any of his family the way this group of well known Ohio bloggers have. From commenting that Cindy McCain must have drugged Trig because he’s not crying, or that the baby was fake, you stating that the McCain/Palin children did not seem “genuine” as the Obama/Biden children did, and your comment that “Bill Clinton is creepy” there, yet here, post that people should hold the Clinton’s in admiration and respect. I could go on…
What you seem to have missed is part of the reason why some of the “Hillary sisterhood” doesn’t support Obama is because they are women before they are Democrats…They realize that even a republican woman who doesn’t share all of their ideology benefits all women. Even some who have decided to support Obama also realize that if they support the line of attack being used against Clinton then Palin, it makes it even harder for the next Democratic woman…
When this presidential election is over, no matter who wins, Ohio is in trouble. I took issue with the hatred thrown at Clinton, so I take issue with the hatred thrown at Palin, though ironically just like Clinton, I feel as if someone has to “stand up” to point out what’s wrong. Once upon a time, you used to be one of those who stood up too…
And we care what Judy Blume thinks why? I didn’t know she was a big political mastermind or commentator. I think I will start posting what my dogs think of this election.
Lisa Renee - I am aware that live-blogs are just that and remain on the blog. What I wrote is what I was thinking at the time.
For the record, because everyone seems to think they know how I feel by putting it through their own funnels, I do not now nor have I ever nor do I expect in the future to hate Sarah Palin - with or without quotes.
I place myself in the category of many women I’ve read and spoken to who are extremely able to recognize that this woman has accomplished many goals that few women ever will and ever have.
But that does not have a thing to do with how I feel about policy or personal choices she’s made, nor what she projects as how she would behave as the VP of this country - at least what we’ve seen so far, which is not very much.
You seem to want to take a higher road but I’m not sure why writing and blogging the discordant views any one of us can hold at the same time equals hatred of someone. That is way too simplistic.
Likewise, your boiling down who I am and what I believe by looking at who posts comments here? That completely confounds me.
But - people are going to draw their own conclusions - that includes you, and me. With the exception of some of the comments calling me a witch and saying I feel threatened and so on, I’m not sure what you’re looking at in terms of who I “associate” with.
BlogHer has many, many, MANY pro-Palin posts and I’ve blogged that at least once or twice. People should feel free to go there.
I posted links to posts that resonated with me. The posts that embrace Gov. Palin, in general, do not resonate with me. I don’t embrace her. No surprise about either of those facts.
I post the links I do often times because there are so few women’s voices in the Ohio blogs as authors - you, me, a few women at The Chief Source, very occasionally at BSB and ODB, Maggie Thurber. I may be missing a couple but I think that’s about it.
You and I have thrown around the idea of coming up with a way, perhaps raising money for a female blogger scholarship or grant of some type.
It was a great idea - you came up with it. And the blogging going in Ohio blogs about the current presidential race certainly could benefit from it.
Wow, another supposed feminist attacking Palin for ‘flaunting’ her down syndrome child and pregnant daughter.
It pretty much speaks for itself.
