A McCain-Palin adviser says an interview was offered to ABC’s Charlie Gibson several days ago and that they expect it to happen in the latter part of the week in Alaska. Palin is the governor of Alaska and is expected to return home at midweek after more joint appearances with McCain.
This announcement came out about an hour ago, about about four or five hours after Jake Tapper, also of ABC, blogged on Political Punch about the deference the McCain campaign was demanding from the media.
This tweet suggests that asking Gibson to do the interview probably means that the McCain people think Gibson is a lightweight.

I hope he does a better job than being so freaking one-sided with Obama/Clinton. That was meaningless chatter and made things worse. Charlie THINK!!!
She’d be better off interviewed by Barbara Walters. Because clearly she ain’t interested in a political interview. I mean WTF is this this? Either she takes the heat like a serious candidate or she gets out of the way for a real woman candidate.
This is sad. And again sets women back so far it ain’t even funny. Now the next woman will have to overcome the Palin stigma…(sigh)
I assumed the first interview would go to Couric, who’s been nothing but fawning over the McCain campaign.
Somewhere the ghost of Peter Jennings sighs.
ask palin why she allows out of state oil execs to do hellicopter hunting, the low life style of hunting animals. twice she stopped the public from putting this on a ballot.
Its very funny and sad that she can’t even do an interview without being slammed.
She probably won’t even be able to get through the interview without making half a dozen sarcastic comments about the Democratic party. It seems like that’s all she’s good for.
The frame of the interview set by the McCain campaign is obviously “interview her in Alaska,” where things are more on her terms.
But these are some quirky terms, and I recommend that Charlie Gibson do some homework. Reportedly (this comes from the generally sympathetic Washington Post), Palin copies her husband on many e-mails; reportedly, he sits in on many of her meetings. The McCain video promotional material on Palin said she dismissed domestic help in the governor’s mansion, misleadingly implying that she gets down on her hands and knees and scrubs the kitchen floor rather than having someone do it. Charlie, please do the homework and please scrutinize!
This is a typical “be careful what you wish for” situation. She will probably perform well, helping her cause, and in the process (more importantly) sucking more oxygen out of the air from Obama.
Democrats demanded an interview and now you have your wish.
