Reason #56 to VOTE FOR Obama/Biden
Filed Under 57ReasonsObamaBiden, Barack Obama, Blogging, John McCain, leadership, Politics, Sexism, WH2008, Writing | 4 Comments
Because the Obama/Biden ticket offers two individuals whose strategies on leadership compliment one another.
What do I mean?
Today, I went to a luncheon that featured four local politicians, all familiar to NE Ohioans. And at one point, Jerry Hruby, speaking in support of the GOP presidential ticket, said, “John McCain is running for John McCain.”
And I had to smirk. Isn’t that the truth? Isn’t that the reality? And for me, there’s no question that his choice of vice president was to help his run for president. Not to actually impact how he does anything – unlike Obama who on the record stated that he wanted a running mate who would challenge him. If anything, in McCain’s case, he chose someone who is the least likely to challenge him, on anything, unless it’s to be more conservative than McCain already is.
And what has McCain added to his ticket with his choice of vice president?
Very little that he didn’t already have by himself. Now there are two mavericks instead of one. Two staunch opponents to giving women choices over their reproductive health. Two lovers of big oil. Two fearmongers who don’t want you to trust anyone with a name that sounds foreign.
Two – two – two mints in one.
Now, that’s what I see and hear and read and understand when I listen to and watch McCain and Palin present their narratives and what they want us to think are their strengths as candidates.
But, just as the Obama campaign keeps reminding us about how John McCain is John McSame when it comes to how often his votes coincided with the Bush administration’s policy, I want to remind people that Obama chose Joe Biden because he is not Obama’s echo. Joe Biden presentation as decisive, confident and experience-based compliments, supplements and amplifies Obama and what the campaign’s agenda cherishes. Obama likes different – and different is good.
Vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden on November 4.

About lipstick and smears
Filed Under Politics | 14 Comments
Sheesh. I wrote this almost a week ago and no one has asked me to apologize. Maybe my readers are smarter than…
Oh, nevermind.
If you still don’t get it, listen to Mike Huckabee who sides with Barack Obama:
“It’s an old expression, and I’m going to have to cut Obama some slack on that one. I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin; he didn’t reference her. If you take the two sound bites together, it may sound like it,” he said on Fox’s “Hannity and Colmes.”
“But I’ve been a guy at the podium many times, and you say something that’s maybe a part of an old joke and then somebody ties it in. So, I’m going to have to cut him slack.”
Or Marc Ambinder who provides John McCain’s reference to Hillary Clinton health care policies as lipstick on a pig:
McCain criticized Democratic contenders for offering what he called costly universal health-care proposals that require too much government regulation. While he said he had not studied Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s plan, he said it was “eerily reminiscent” of the failed plan she offered as first lady in the 1990s.
“I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig,” he said of her proposal.
Yup – it’s still opposite day.
I think, at the debates, Palin should not wear lipstick and, in good faith, the men should all wear lipstick – including the moderators.
