Sigh.  I see him in the grocery store frequently, sometimes with his kids. I used to see him at his kids’ swim lessons regularly, a few years ago.  I just want this man to please get help that sticks. Are people enabling him? Come on. I’d suggest that he and Zach Reed might be able to help out one another, but I’m not sure of Reed’s current status.

Sigh – I’m so sorry for his kids.

I wrote about his last incident here.

……hi Jill, I was just wonderin’ if , maybe, Eric and our local(Lorain)law director and second ward councilman could join forces for a “group” discount at the local rehab? Seriously, is it time we start scrutinizing the judicial system a little more? The judges and prosecutors(groan)are the ones responsible for allowing someone like a Mark Provenza to reach the “milestone” of a 4th D.U.I. charge. And as a society, I believe we’re just “accepting” this type of behaviour more and more each day. I know I’m tired of hearing about these multiple offenders.

Did you see the video on Channel 5 last night? He could barely stand up! How very sad. He’s lucky he didn’t kill anyone.

Aside from a few Raspberries reunion gigs, he is in a rock and roll no man’s land. His solo career was too brief and lightweight to generate much nostalgia (although I did like “Boats Against The Current”), no major label would sign him anyway (especially now, given the state of the industry) and playing the hits in front of 39 people at the American Legion Hall in Lebanon PA isn’t an appealing option.

Sometimes guys like him can make a living writing for and/or producing other artists, but that’s not easy to do in suburban Cleveland.

Very few successful musicians really “leave the business” — it usually works the other way around.

I would go see him in a heartbeat!

I think Eric Carmen left the business because he just wasn’t one of ‘them.’ Isn’t that why he went back to his birthplace, Ohio, to raise his family? Eric Carmen is a beautiful singer and songwriter, and if you are a genuine goodhearted person it’s not a life living in LA or NY among the phony and jaded. If Eric stayed in the limelight he’d still be as famous as he was, he just didn’t want to stay. I commend him. He’s a real man.

My note above is a response to comment #3. I see that Eric Carmen was arrested for drunk driving three years ago, and I thank the Lord nobody was injured or killed. I’ve prayed that Eric has gotten help in the meantime. God bless you Eric.
