I’m sorry, Kevin DeWine, but here’s more evidence (with a video too) that there are racists in Ohio who will not vote for someone because they are black. I know – you just don’t want to believe it.  I wish I was wrong and you were right.

From Local12.com:

Mike Lunsford hung the ghost in his yard. He spoke to us off-camera, saying his views could hurt his employers business … but he says make no mistake: He doesn’t want an African American running the country.

Lunsford says he believes Barack Obama is not a “full blooded American.” And he says the United States is a white, Christian nation – and only with white Christians should be in power.

And the neighbors’ opinion?

Vickie Crowe lives next door. She’s an Obama supporter.

“What did you think when you first saw that?” Vickie Crowe/neighbor: “Well actually my 5 year old son says Obama’s hanging upside down. He’s what? He’s hanging upside down. It’s the neighbor’s ghost. I took it as a little bit of a racist statement because my grandson’s mixed and it hurt a little bit.”

What would you do? What can you do?  What can we do?

A “little bit of a racist statement”?!? What’s wrong with these people? It’s vulgar bigotry motivated by supremacist beliefs, it’s something that everyone (even the guy who said it) agrees is racist, why are his neighbors rationalizing this?

  2. 2 Jill Miller Zimon on October 17th, 2008 5:53 pm

I would guess because they are scared. I’m not saying that’s right of them, but in all seriousness, what should/can be done? What would a mom with young kids there do? Moving away doesn’t make it go away, speaking out – how protected can she remain – is this person someone who would otherwise be dangerous, or no? Does that matter?

Honestly – I’m not sure what the options are – that sounds stupid I know – as though it should be obvious to argue with him and tell him to take it down.

Maybe that is the only thing? Certainly the right thing.

This is still A very racist world that we live in but to say that you are a christian is a lie to God not to your country. I thought that God for all people it matter to you because you not one of God childred. may God bless you anyway.

That is mortifying and disgusting. Hopefully the guy will get fired… but what a nightmare for the neighbors. I would be so scared, and so desperate to get out of there.

…….it seems to me that the issues are not worthy of mentioning to often, most candidates are sticking it to their opponents by talking of past actions. Will we ever see an election where we can talk about what the candidates want to do, can do and will do, rather than what they have done. I don’t care to hear what a candidates opponent has done in the past, tell me what the candidate can and will do. It’s really that simple. This election cycle has been going on for over a year now and their all still slinging dirt on each other. And they wonder why people don’t vote?

    Scared? He’s not scared.

And are we talking about Fairfield just ‘outside’ Akron?

I lived in Cleveland to Akron area for a number of years – seven, ending up in Bedford for five where Bedford & Solon were my stomping ground.

I was stunned at the overt bigotry of people with whom I worked and lived around. Coming from Idaho many folks would give me shit about the Aryan Nation types in northern Idaho. And where are the AN – Pennsylvania? But I digress.

One weekend down in Dublin convinced that once I finished my degree in religious studies at Ursuline, I’d be leaving Ohio. An encounter at a Kroger’s there when some white guy glared hatefully at my friend, seriously took me so aback I was going to say something to him while she urged me to ‘come on, come on. Ignore him.’ Ignore him?!

And in all fairness, I should confess I missed the mountains, beside the fact that it never “took” that the lake was NORTH until I returned home, and then it made perfect sense.

Oh please – let me answer my own question. Gawd, I just love making a fool of myself.

I’m thinking of Fairlawn that’s just outside of Akron. Whatever – lawn, field….

Now I’m more certain the Mr. Lunsford isn’t afraid. Friends moved from Solon to outside Columbus (have to look up the name) to some land they owned, not realizing the racist nuttiness of some of their neighbors. That action and talk I heard more of while visiting them.

    Jill,

There are fools everywhere including Ohio. Doesn’t make all Ohians foolish.
There are a few racist’s everywhere including Ohio. Doesn’t make all Ohians racist.
There are marxists everywhere including Ohio. Doesn’t make all Ohioans Marxist.
And on and on. I’ve lived in several states. Some have more idiots than others. Ohio for all its problems is not that bad.
Weather is better in some states and worse in others.
People are worse in some states but better in none.

Well I’ll say this. I left Ohio in November 1996 and came back to live here again full time in April 2007. I have to say that based on all observation, this state has become a home for a increasingly larger number of bitter and hateful people. I don’t know if it’s the economy or something else that did it but this is a far different state mood-wise than then one I left in 1996. Perhaps I only noticed things now after my time in Iowa (which looks downright tolerant compared to Ohio). Maybe I’m just more sensitive to this sort of nonsense because of my experiences in those 10 years.

I’m just noticing a lot more intolerance and hate among ordinary people than I did before. And it saddens me.

But at least it isn’t like living in the deep South. I’d never live there, not for any job.

And as for your equating Marxists with fools and racists Bill, at least the Marxists I know give more of a damn for the lesser among us than any Republicans I know.

Hate is not a family value.

For all those who say this is a Christian nation, I assume you believe in the 10 Commandments. You do realize the 10 Commandments were given to the JEWS??

  11. 11 Bernie on October 28th, 2008 8:18 pm

What a crock. when you point at “bitter and hateful” people remember that 4 fingers are pointing back.
It’s OK for you wacko’s to hang our military and Palin in effigy but heaven forbid someone return the favor about your guy. Can you say Hypocracy.

  12. 12 NOBAMA NOWAY on October 28th, 2008 11:16 pm

So what will you do to the bigots in LA who hung Palin in effigy? They won’t take it down so the OBAMANAZI is fair game.

    TOOOOOOOOOOOO bad…

    Hahahaha.

You hate Palin, we hate socialists like Obama.
It is NOT about race.. If it were, this racist would have been sent to the trash bin of fringe candidates where he belongs.

I hope Lunsford gets fired. Then he will be looking to the Democrats to help him out. Also, I have been taught that we are all children of God. This man obviously does not agree with christian teachings. He certainly is a racist thru and thru. God will deal with him in another place.

  15. 15 Taryn on October 29th, 2008 1:45 pm

Shame, shame, shame. Intolerance and xenophobia have led us to where we are as a nation. Your attitudes only serve to perpetuate the ugliness. We have a great potential before us. For the first time in my 40+ years on this planet I have great enthusiasm for a candidate and am volunteering every spare minute to Obama’s campaign. If you were drowning would you refuse a lifeline because the rescuer didn’t look like you thought they should?

  16. 16 TD on October 29th, 2008 1:46 pm

Socialism? What do you call Palin “spreading the wealth” in Alaska? Somehow the difference escapes me.

  17. 17 TD on October 29th, 2008 1:47 pm

    Furthermore…I don’t “hate” anyone.
