The judging will continue through the 2010 election season when the Ohio Republican Party continues to work at discrediting Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner. I have no doubt they’ll find more than enough information to present as making the case for her defeat, but in the meantime, the lack of criticism seems to be in far greater abundance and Brunner is proceeding with a summit. I’m checking into the dates and credentialing to attend the event.
SECRETARY BRUNNER ANNOUNCES OHIO ELECTION SUMMIT
Larry Norden of the Brennan Center to Chair
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following an Ohio election widely praised as smooth and efficient, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has announced the creation of a historic Ohio Election Summit. The Summit will be hosted by the Secretary of State and chaired by Lawrence Norden, counsel with the prestigious Brennan Center for Justice; it will draw on the expertise and on-the-ground experience of Ohio’s bipartisan elections officials.
“After this pivotal election, we have an opportunity to build on the many things that went well in this election, while improving upon what we can do better. We want Ohio to have the best-administered elections in the nation. The Ohio Election Summit will help us use this election as a springboard to solidify best election practices that guarantee the strongest protections of democracy for the highest voter confidence,” Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, the Summit will offer a bipartisan analysis of elections administration and will focus on:
· Elections best practices from Ohio’s 2008 election that can be solidified and documented for use in future elections and as part of national standards in election administration.
· A review of tested best practices from other states and research studies that could enhance the voting experience and elections administration in Ohio.
· Opportunities to streamline and simplify elections laws and administration in Ohio to provide for the greatest consistency and voter protection.
The Secretary of State’s office and Summit Chair Norden have started preparations for an early December meeting in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Norden will work with the Secretary of State’s office to develop the Summit agenda and to recruit bipartisan local, state and national elections experts to facilitate panel discussions.
“This Summit represents a wonderful opportunity to use the efforts of Ohio’s elections officials in 2008 to build a national model for election administration. I congratulate Secretary Brunner for her foresight in calling this Summit, and I am honored to be part of the effort,” Lawrence Norden commented.
After the Ohio Election Summit, the Secretary of State’s office plans to present the Governor and the General Assembly with a report summarizing the Summit’s recommended best practices. The Ohio Election Summit will be open to the public with pre-registration.

Shalom Jill,
Sounds fascinating. Please keep me posted.
B’shalom,

Unbelievable! Massive Registration Fraud, assigning park benches as addresses for “homeless people” bussed in to vote, same day registration and voting, absentee atrocities, Brunner admitting 200,000 fraudulent names on the rolls….yeah – let’s book that as a success! It sure bought the result for the Dems, and that is – after all – how they define success
Gaella –
You have several facts wrong starting with the same day registration and voting – that was foisted on the SOS by the Republicans – they passed that law.
There were not 200k fraudulent names – just ask Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted and others who were victims of mismatches.
“Massive” registration fraud – want to provide some examples and justify the quantity as “massive”?
Please – bring it on, but bring it on with facts, not accusations and talking points.
Asking the Brennan Center to chair this is like asking the fox to watch the chicken coop. What a joke. The voters will see through the Brunner/Brennan fraud in 2010.
Go for it What a – provide some links re: Brennan.
Wow, a liberal that wants facts – this is very AgainstType!! jillMiller, here you go: In June, she “discovered” that Ohio law provided for a one week window of early voting, in which voters were allowed to register and vote on the same day, bypassing the usual process of voter registration and verification. She also refused pollwatchers entry – this would make the early voting the only election in Ohio history that was not open to public scrutiny, by decree of Ohio’s Secretary of State.
ACORN committed massive fraud (and in 12 states under investigation, Ohio tops the list) The ACORN data is well doc’d elsewhere. The Ohio Supreme Court overruled Brunner’s decree that at least 1 million Republican absentee ballot requests were invalid because of a checkbox on the form. As the Cincinnati Enquirer said it, “Ohio law allows voters to request an absentee ballot on the back of a grocery sack if they want to.” As Ohio GOP Communications Director John McClelland said in a phone interview, Brunner’s decree was “absolutely voter suppression.”
When she “discovered” the system was too fragile to cross-check nearly 700,000 new or revised voter registrations filed this year against state driver’s license and federal social security records, she herself said “the entire system will have to be rebuilt after next week’s election so that fraud can be more easily detected.” Hmmmm..
A cursory review by her staff had found about 200,000 discrepancies in the newly filed or revised registrations since Jan. 1. yeah, drop in the bucket, must have all been typos or something. really!
Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is breaking federal law by not giving county elections boards the chance to determine whether new voter registrations are fraudulent, a federal judge ruled (she then got it overturned bec she didn’t have time to checkk them all!!)
“It is hard to imagine a public interest more compelling than safeguarding the legitimacy of the election of the president of the United States,” said Judge George C. Smith of U.S. District Court in Columbus, in upholding the Ohio Republican Party’s request for a court order.
14 temporary Obama staffers who registered to vote have withdrawn their ballots. The individuals did not meet the legal requirements to cast a ballot in Ohio. When this was brought to their attention, they pulled their ballots.
Franklin County Board of Elections Director Michael Stinziano said his office has about 160 allegations pending, including “many” directed at Little and Vote Today Ohio. Election fraud in Ohio is a felony.
Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner’s connection to a top ACORN official raises troubling new questions about her refusal to disclose at least 200,000 questionable voter registrations being held by her office.
An investigation into ACORN’s alleged fraudulent election activity revealed on Wednesday that one of its national directors, Karyn Gillette, collaborated with the Obama campaign to raise funds for the group’s voter registration efforts.
Gillette is identified on Jennifer Brunner’s 2006 campaign website as a consultant to Brunner, and a blog entry filed by Brunner’s husband Rick adds that “our candidate had gone earlier in the day to have some meetings and work out of Karyn Gillette’s office.” Rick Brunner also describes Gillette as “very helpful to the campaign.”
According to campaign finance reports, Gillette, a longtime fundraising consultant to Ohio Democrats, was paid $21,250 by Brunner’s campaign.
An ACORN whistleblower testified in a Pennsylvania state court on Wednesday that “in November 2007 Project Vote development director Karyn Gillette told her she had direct contact with the Obama campaign and had obtained their donor lists.” Project Vote is the voter registration arm of ACORN. (Wall Street Journal, 10/29/08)
Gillette is not Brunner’s only tie to ACORN. Members of the group’s voter registration arm, Project Vote, regularly advise Brunner on election strategy, previously serving on her Voter Rights Institute and even recently issuing a news release claiming credit for Brunner’s directive banning challenges to suspected fraudulent voter registrations.
that’s just the tip of the iceburg, jillMiller
oh wait, one more kind of curious step she took: homeless people can now register with an address of a designated park bench. This (as she well knows) opens the door to all kinds of fraudulent voting as anyone can claim to be homeless, designate the bench, and vote. Yeah, that’s definitely a key componenet of a successful voting operation. What a gal..
Your cataloguing is impressive, gaella – you should be sure to make a copy of it to send to the SOS’s people because seriously, my readership is down to a few friends and family. And while I like facts, a lot of your assertions have seriously little to do with Ohio let alone “massive” anything.
You also left out the McCain staffers who had residence and voter registration issues – you may recall that the Franklin County prosecutors office decided not to pursue charges against either side’s problem staffers re: registration.
Last – you know that HAVA was written and passed by a GOP-ruled Congress and signed by Bush. Blackwell left a lot of junk for Brunner to have to implement and the GOP-governed statehouse, with Taft in through the end of 2006, didn’t leave her with much that was good to work with.
I suggest you try and be a bit calmer and thorough if you’re trying to straighten out Ohio – and be sure to come to the election event where you can make an impact.
ALL Ohio events. There was much more Dem/ACORN fraud in Pennsylvania, Florida, Iowa…it was terribly fraudulent. Your persistence in defending your hero is admirable, but severely misguided. The damage caused by fraudulent elections is too great to ignore. You have no facts with which to counter – just denial (which is incorrect every citation is OHIO SPECIFIC) and disparaging language. that’s the liberal attitude I’m accustomed to!
To your point re: HAVA… Regardless of its origin, it was HER responsibility to monitor and ensure that all registration was leagla and all votes were legal. She failed on both counts. Her system failed, and she promised to fix it..later. She failed to check 200,000 faulty registrations, and she enabled ACORN, an egregiously fraudulent organization whic contributed to the BHO election On A Massive Scale.
gaella –
Your stridence can’t substitute for reality. You’ve yet to show this: “The damage caused by fraudulent elections is too great to ignore.”
What was the damage in 2008? There’s nothing massive and nothing “too great to ignore.”
You’ve done nothing to show otherwise. I’d urge you to start your own blog though as you do develop your evidence. Putting in time here really won’t help anyone, sadly. Just not a big enough platform. But thanks for taking the time.
Well, the mere fact that no one in the Party That Bitterly Clings to No has made any sort of formal complaint indicates that it’s seeped through even their dim brains that they have no case.
