Transliteration does make it a bit subjective as to whether things are correctly spelled or not.

Shalom Jill,

The use of double letters and final h's has always confused me in Hebrew/English transliteration. If the letter doesn't appear in the Hebrew, why the feck do we add it in the English?

In the case of Chanukah, the only real question is do you represent the Chet with a Ch or an H?

In Hebrew the word is spelled (right to left, of course) Chet, Nun, Vav, Kof, Hey. Add three vowels: ah under the Chet, oo in the Vav and a second ah under the Kof and you have Cha Nu (oo) Kah.

I HATE transliteration.

B'shalom,
