Molotov cocktail hits Chicago synagogue


From the Chicago Tribune:

No one was hurt in the arson at Temple Sholom, 3480 N. Lake Shore Drive, that police are investigating as a hate crime.

Bomb and arson detectives were at the scene Monday afternoon and the investigation was ongoing, said Chicago police officer Daniel O’Brien.

O’Brien said the fire “extinguished itself, nothing ever caught fire.” No suspect was in custody as of Monday afternoon, he said.

“The offender drove off and made a derogatory statement” to a witness, and police were working to review surveillance equipment in the area, said O’Brien.

[Temple president Roger] Rudich said the incident was not “terribly expensive or damaging,” but “it’s just so unsettling.”

Fighting speech with speech seems to be a reasonable strategy, but violence with violence has never appealed to me.

    Me either,I am not interested in seeing any escalations either.

    And I’ve never ‘gotten’ the why of attacking someone’s religious building, be it a mosque, synagogue, cathedral, box or whatever.

    Does hate need a reason? Has it ever? The kind of hatred displayed by Nazi Germany and Radical Islam can not be ignored, and it can never be appeased. It would be nice to think that both sides could work it out. But that is never going to happen. If it were, than the rockets would have stopped when Israel sacrificed all that land for peace. But no amount of land will ever appease the Hamas, or the President of Iran. Even now volunteers from Iran are traveling to help the Hamas. The question is-who will help Israel? And will Israel’s ally stand up before it’s too late?
