So many things well-said. Bob King, I particularly like your view from right of center, and your point about arguing with fools. “There’s no profit in it”.

I’m probably center to center left, and have made a point of listening to many of the conservative AM radio personalities, starting with Rush back in the early 90′s – with the intent of not being uninformed when I express an opinion on what these folks are saying. I love good discourse and argument between intelligent people who disagree, but can come to some middle ground on what constructive action should result to the benefit of society. You definitely won’t get this from Rush!

I’ve listened well beyond Rush’s requisite 6 shows. Oh my Lord, who is so dull that it takes more than 5 minutes to understand what makes this guy tick? Anyone that slow will have trouble tuning the radio dial. 15 minutes of Rush is all it takes to recognize his super-bloated ego as one of historic proportions. It is laughable but predictable that Rush would cling so tightly to dismissing everything a person might say simply because they haven’t listened to 6 of his shows… but anyone who has listened this long can tell you: this is an essential part of his daily strategy to discredit and attack callers who don’t bow down in worship.

Could a more pompous, self-centered, self-promoting person exist anywhere? Rush is a model of boorish behavior. Granted he is smart, and clever, but in truth he is a blight on the face of the earth, and truly a demon. Could anyone be more divisive? If this nation fails, it will be due in large part to the venom that this man spits out every day, poisoning the minds of millions of his adoring dittoheads.

Hey Jill, great post and let me add my appreciation for your “taking one for the team.”
While my first response to why “women don’t like Rush” would be a suggestion he look in the mirror, that is counter productive and also diminishes women.
That said, I see him as a bully who literally gets off on slamming people who he sees as weak. I was picked on as a kid and whenever I am forced to listen to him, I hear all the bullies who stole my hats, made fun of my last name and jumped on me and pinned me down on my way home from school.

Thanks for the pats on the back for suffering through reading the transcript of Day One. I agree with pretty much everyone’s observations here – you almost want to put him in front of a one-way mirror and just dissect him from a clinical perspective – there’s so much there for experimentation and study.

I read the transcript from yesterday (Friday, 2/26/09) too and could only muster this post about his clinical mental condition.

I think I’m going to have to bo back to full-blown forgetting he exists mode. It just works better for all of us, I think.

I consider myself a Conservative from some perspectives – not that I consider a pure right-left metric particularly valid.

But I’m old enough to remember when Conservatives were the people more likely to value a critical intelligence, while Liberals were more likely to value demogogues. Of course, when one delves into the origins of the Neo-Conservative movement, we realize that we are actually talking about the same, exact people – people who’s true ideology derives not from Marx, Chomskey, Rothbard or Rand – but P.T. Barnum.

There’s an ancient rule that applies very specifically to Rush in particular and the Echo Chamber in general; “Never argue with a fool; people might not be able to tell the difference.”

The Smart People of all persuasions should have a simple rule – to never appear in public with partisan windbags incapable of advancing an intelligent proposition. It simply pollutes the intellectual commons and takes up time and brain cells that could be better expended with a bottle of fine whiskey in better company.

Getting through that transcript was a bear, wasn’t it? I haven’t drowned this much in irony and hypocrisy since Jan 20. And to think that millions of people out there take his word as sacrosanct. No wonder Rush is rarely on any other show or news channel to actually debate someone. It’s hard to defend your point to someone who doesn’t agree with you and whose mic you can’t shut off.

There’s nothing salvagable about Limbaugh.

Limbaugh is a purely cynical, opportunist who exploits the frustration of powerlessness that many folks feel vis-a-vis the powerful.

Sorry, no one should ever take him seriously or participate in anything he suggests. The best policy is to seek out all opportunities that present themselves to marginalize such a destructive person.

He can never be trusted. He’s proven that for over 20 years.

So! Rush asks women why we don’t like him and when we tell him, he dismisses us like a bunch of giggling school girls. Big surprise. I would have told him without a “summit” that I don’t like him because he’s a chauvinistic, pompous, bombastic, self rightgeous, sexist jerk, not to mention being a narrow minded, bigoted a$$ but *sigh*, what good would it do? He won’t take constructive criticism, he sure as hell won’t take my admittedly partisan criticism.
