The whole notion of a male feminist has always made me chuckle. Treat women nicely and with respect. But a feminist? Come on…
Hi Jill: The paper is City Pages.
I’ve never seen anything wrong with applying a “feminist” label to myself, especially as a man living in a house full of strong women. Besides, wouldn’t you want to try to treat everyone nicely and with respect? Why single out women? That still makes them sound second-class.
Therein lies the difference between context and mere semantics.

John and Craig – I’m not huge on labels being applied to me, I confess, esp. when I don’t use them to describe me in the first place. I thought it seemed apt in this situation though – just my impression.
