The Washington Post’s The Fix writes today, in regard to the fall-out from current Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s decision not to run for U.S. Senate:

With Madigan out of the Senate race, expect businessman Chris Kennedy to quickly announce his candidacy, joining state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias in the Democratic primary. Madigan’s no-go decision also makes it far more likely that Rep. Mark Kirk, by far Republicans strongest candidate, will make the race.

Thoughts on the impact of Kennedy’s already anticipated jump?

Old news. Giannoulias announced quite some time ago; he’s all in. About a month ago, maybe a little longer, Kennedy announced that he might maybe perhaps announce the next week and didn’t. He’s supposedly still exploring. Obviously, Kennedy is a terrible candidate — arrogant, presumptuous and out of touch. i think he won’t get in because it’s absolutely impossible to picture this guy shaking hands in front of a factory in Rockford or working the taco joints in Pilsen: he just doesn’t have it in him. He only associates with the high and mighty and thinks he owes no one else any answers. His candidacy would be a disaster. I talked to my sister to warn her and she says everyone she knows in Chicago already thinks the guy is a no-go.

No impact. Giannoulias is their guy. If Burris stays in, he’ll likely beat Burris. That’s really the only question mark.

Thanks, Anastasia. As you called it, the news came out today that Burris will not seek re-election and the candidates will fall in line as you state, with Madigan out.
