From Cleveland Scene’s C-Notes blog:
This weekend’s Ingenuity Festival, happening all over the PlayhouseSquare area tonight through Sunday, features a lot of strange, challenging, sure-to-be-head-scratching presentations that mix various artistic disciplines. But never fear: Even if you are not a fan of avant-garde theater, dance, performance art or experimental sound and light experiences — or you’re not sure if you are — the trip downtown and the $10 admission (or $15 for the whole weekend) is worth it for the chance to hear some good local music.
Today’s Plain Dealer (it looks like I am okay to link and quote) describes an opening night act:
The three-day Ingenuityfest 2009 opened Friday with a “Big Bang” and continued its first day with electric bolts thrown against the night sky.
Handmade drums, big steel drums, African drums and high-pitched cymbals echoed along Euclid Avenue when the festival kicked off with the throbbing rhythm of “Big Bang.” Percussionist Marcus Santos coordinated about 75 local drummers, who gathered in Star Plaza and added their beats to the improvisational session.
Hmm – so, you still may be wondering, what exactly is this festival? From its website (I’m coveting its design this year, done by Insivia):
Ingenuity, Cleveland’s Festival of Art and Technology
The Ingenuity Festival returns with a weekend-long celebration of art and technology, designed for audiences of any age and experience, staged in the center of Downtown Cleveland. Prominent international masters present original works alongside the finest of Northeast Ohio’s performing and visual artists. High technology firms and major colleges and universities are presented alongside acclaimed artists to create a dazzling display of exciting and immersive new work! Ingenuity pushes boundaries, creating a unique festival experience that draws and celebrates diversity, and involves the audience as both spectator and participant!
They’re partnering with Screaming Tiki Con this year and that brought out Edward James Olmos (of Battlestar Galactica fame) among others.
Can’t get there? The website has a live feed page with videos and a Twitter stream displayed (you can follow @Ingenuityfest too and I’m checking out if they have a hashtag).
Go go go to Ingenuity – it’s a great time.

Thanks so much for writing up the festival and enjoying (coveting) the site we designed for them. It is an amazing festival and went really well this year.
