Now, if they will live-stream it, we’ll be all set. I would definitely live-blog that. Okay, yeah – no – I wouldn’t unless they tape it or start exactly at 6:30pm and end by 7:30 because folks, that my first City Council meeting of my term (next week I’m sworn in and there’s a meeting of the whole kind of thing at the Road & Safety/Finance & Planning meeting, but 1/20 is the real deal at 8pm).

Okay – let’s see how techie Hamilton County’s Dems will get so I can be mobile and follow for as long as I can.

UPDATE: From the Toledo Blade, we learn that this individual does have convictions for felony and misdemeanor offenses in Toledo and Lucas County.

No taking the national politics out of me, Dan, especially when Toledo makes an appearance in this story about a passenger being pulled from a Florida flight, bound for Detroit because he allegedly screamed that he wanted to kill Jews:

A Florida airline passenger who witnesses say proclaimed “I want to kill all the Jews” before police forced him off a Detroit-bound plane has been arrested.

Miami-Dade police said in a statement Thursday that 43-year-old Mansor Mohammad Asad of Toledo, Ohio, faces several charges including disorderly conduct.

The AP version has more information but you know the drill – I’m not allowed to post much of it.  Here’s what I will post:

…Witnesses told investigators who boarded the plane that Asad was loud, disruptive and claimed to be Palestinian.

Officers didn’t find any weapons or explosives on Asad, who was reportedly agitated and aggressive at times, according to an arrest affidavit. Authorities used a stun gun to subdue Asad on the jet bridge after he charged at an officer with fists clenched. He also chanted in a foreign language and threatened officers during a search.

“I’m not afraid of you cops, I’ve gotten in fights with cops in Ohio and broke their arms in three places,” he said, according to the affidavit. “I’ve broken skulls too!” [emphasis added]

I assume we’ll be hearing more from Toledo and/or Lucas County outlets regarding whether he has the kind of history there that he allegedly intimated he has. Read more

The Ohio GOP state legislators’ attempts to dump the Ohio income tax, without providing simultaneously a single solution as to how they’ll replace literally billions of dollars that make up 40% of the state’s revenue, is so, so disappointing. Nothing energizing about it. Nothing fresh about it, in the positive sense anyway.  And absolutely nothing new about it.

How not new is it?  Check out the detailed post I wrote in March 2009, when a COAST event indicated that State Rep. and GOP candidate for State Treasurer Josh Mandel announced his support for the elimination of the Ohio income tax (yes, he’s signed onto Adams’ bill, HB 400).

And why do I use the sentiment, “disappointing”? Because my state rep, with his own words, has given exhortations on how wasteful it is for the Ohio GA to do anything other than focus on:

…job creation, the promotion of a business-friendly environment and the elimination of government waste. Until our economy is back on track and Ohioans have better employment opportunities, [increasing the criminal penalties for] cockfighting should have to wait.

And yet, as anyone following the 2010 budget debacle knows, the Ohio GA could barely plug a more than $800 million hole; this income tax elimination would delete nearly $16 billion – BILLION – from the Ohio revenue deposits.

How is it that State Rep. John Adams’ dump the income tax bill is going to create jobs, promote a business-friendly environment and eliminate government waste? Read more
