For the background, read here.

For what supposedly actually happened, read here.

Whatev.  I don’t see how pretending it might be more rage-filled than it actually wasn’t is any better than it not actually being as it was originally described by The Hill.  The anger remains the same.  And the hits on the media, traditional or otherwise, only undermine all the criticisms these folks try to pin on the media in the first place – because they’re the ones working to manipulate everything.

All a big waste of energy. Can you just imagine if that was used for something good?

Jill, I think you can remove the “alleged” from the fact that I attended the event. We had a good time, everyone understood the symbolism of bashing big spending, not people.

And pardon me if my desire to leave a country to my children that was at least as good as what I inherited is non productive in the view of some people.

If some are proud of the debt being thrust upon our kids and grand kids, that is their right. But deferring our problems for future generations to deal with is not my idea of responsibility.

Tom – thanks for the comment. I don’t know you or your blog which is why I put alleged. If you are here to verify, I appreciate that.

As for the rest – I’m not sure why you think I would disagree with any of the specifics of what you wish or why you would think I don’t wish the same.

It’s pretty clear, or so I thought, that my roll of the eyes at the deflection of energy to suggestions of and/or actual bashing of pinatas of our elected officials has to do with my opinion that that effort is nothing but an expression of rage. Expression of rage is something I’m very familiar within my small city that is just coming to realize that our mayor, a moderate Republican stalwart in our region, decided years ago, along with the Council, to use estate taxes to subsidize a high level of service provision and high compensation. Now that that’s dried up and property and income taxes are down, I’ve been hearing from sun up to sundown the absolute rage and sense of betrayal that residents in our city feel.

I encourage them to write and call and tell us.

But I also tell them that as a council member, I must use that to INFORM what steps I take. I will not take that anger and rage and amplify, encourage or otherwise seek to escalate it. That’s not my job as an elected official. My job is to hear and recognize the feelings, find the facts and figure out the possible solutions from which, with the residents, we will solve our situation.

Engendering rage? No. Not gonna do it. And my agreement with you about everything you wrote re: why people might be angry does not justify ME supporting the escalation and inciting of anger and rage.

But I do REALLY appreciate you writing very even-temperedly (yeah, probably not a real word) about it. Thank you.

Thanks, Jill. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that this was not done in anger, or rage. It was all in an after hours setting with a couple of beers among friends and colleagues. It was a festive atmosphere with no malice. Cameras were not allowed inside by the owners. There was a photographer, and I will try to post some of the pictures when he puts them up, but the fun in a pinata is in watching the wild misses.

My problem comes with the media trying to portray silly fun as somehow evil and violent. It was nothing like that. And Ford O’Connell would never be a part of something that would promote violence.

If there is any violence from the right, I will state I reject violence in any form as a means of change. We will use the ballot box to achieve our goals. This is America. That is how we roll!

If there is violence, it should be reported as such. When it is imagined, and falsely reported is that not almost as bad as the act itself?

I will read your blog a bit more, you are a together lady!

Well, you may discover you’re being too kind to me, ;) but I have found good company in a number of places with diverse political ideas (I co-blog at The Moderate Voice, was part of a two libs/two conservatives blog via the Cleveland Plain Dealer a few years back and for a while, I had posting privileges at Rightpundits.com).

I guess I just have a really really low tolerance for wasting energy because I know what the demands are on mine and I always wonder how people can justify for themselves using their energy in certain ways that don’t make sense to me, lol – I know, pretty judgemental I guess! But I’m also nearing 50, have three school-aged kids, am a part-time freelancer and a city council member now. Just a few things going on – and I’m interested in everything, lol.

Anyway – thanks, good luck with your blogging and I’ll also try to keep up with your blog. Are you covering that Congressional race with Krystal Ball in it?
